Hatch also expressed his regrets in voting against the MLK Holiday in 1983.He had a very genteel and folksy sense of humor apparently.
Being from Utah, he had those strong religious and conservative values but also those National Security and very TradCon instincts. He was against marijuana as 'self abuse' and back in the 90's did a probe against violent video games, though he was never as hostile against them as Democrats like Hilary Clinton for example. He was also crazy for IP protection.
He was good for bipartisanship back when that was in vogue.
On the other hand, he was big on supporting the Balanced Budget Amendment a billion times though it sadly never passed in anything close to the fashion where it'd have any utility. He also tried to pass the Hatch Amendment (dunno who it was named after) which would've amended the Constitution to having Abortion be an issue for the States alone to decide. He also supported things like Stem Cell Research and Expanding Generic Drug access and production.
