Overall the remake was pretty brilliant. It was an impressive accomplishment I feel as well. Resident Evil 4 has been widely considered one of the best action games in video game history and helped popularize things like the over the shoulder combat perspective and the like. It had solid, challenging gameplay and a fun single player campaign with lots of memorable moments and enemies (especially in the Village/Castle parts) so a remake to do that credit was a challenge.
But they met the challenge. It wasn't just an HD Remaster, it was a proper remake which deepened the story and added a lot of depth to the characters and reworked a lot of the moments in the game and typically for the better. I agree with Ada Wong's voice acting, but I would put that more on the Direction then the voice actor herself. Blaming Lily Gao for the flat voice work sounds utterly moronic since I'm assuming more people are involved in curating the vice work.
Jack Krausers entire storyline was a bit weird the first time around, but while I still feel he was underdeveloped (even compared to the classic) they did a good job with Leon's encounters with him and the climax of their encounter actually had some surprising emotional resonance which really impressed me considering how narm it could've been.
The most traumatizing part of the game was the death of Mike the Talking Helicopter though. I am completely unashamed in stating Mike was potentially my favorite character in potentially my favorite portion of the game and while him appearing here was awesome, I was always hoping for more nonetheless. The way the remake did him in was also a bit underwhelming compared to getting rocketed out of the sky as well I feel. "He knew a good bar!"
It's unfortunate that a lot of the good Triple A games released recently are remakes, but they did do a really good job with the Resident Evil 4 Remake. Changed enough to make the Remake its own thing while still being Resident Evil 4.
