China Propaganda and Protest over Wuhan Virus

you guys sure love to circle jerk, meanwhile people are dieing because of selfish middle managers and retirees
Ignoring how I highly doubt all the protesters are middle managers and retirees, what people are "dying" for is the right to go back to work before they end up unemployed, perhaps permanently because the places which would have employed them don't survive an extended quarantine. Most businesses simply won't survive being closed for so long. And if that happens I guarantee that in the long run you will see far more people winding up homeless and likely dying then the virus ever would have.

And that's ignoring the whole civil liberties angle where governors are arbitrarily allowed to shutdown businesses and deny people rights then swing right around and decide that weed is an essential service.

To be fair, weed makes it easier for people to deal with the lockdown, and the stores remaining open helps keep a very profitable (in terms of tax revenue) business open. Same thing with liquor stores.

Plus, securing dispensaries and grows against theft is hard to do if no one is minding the store or grows due to a lockdown.

Michigan's governor has fucked up in a lot of ways, but letting weed shops stay open isn't one of them.

Not to mention the fact that some people use "weed" in various forms for pain and appetite management; without access to it, their quality of life diminishes significantly.

I don’t think there is ever a justifiable situation where the government can ban speech and protest as a whole. If people are protesting Michigan then Michigan should relax it’s insane rules. We fought a war for independence through a pandemic. Michigan literally won’t even let you go to a vacation home. And we are absolutely fucking annihilating our economy in response to this, that’ll kill people and ruin lives in the long run just the same as the virus.

it’s liberty or death, not liberty or death unless it’s a virus.
First, the government is not banning speech as a whole. It's banning protests due to the nature of the disaster that we are dealing with. People can bitch online. Fox News and Gateway Pundit can continue to complain that this is just a cough and no big deal. Just not outdoor protests. And as someone who is very cynical about how effective such protests are in general (remember the Iraq War protests) it seems to be a reasonable measure under the circumstances.

Now, did the governor of Michigan take things a bit too far? Sure, I'll agree on that. But we are not anywhere near ready to open up things. We need to build up an infrastructure to make sure we can handle things, particularly in terms of more testing and continually increasing medical capacity. And until that happens, the reality is that the economy is going to be annihlated anyways. Most Americans aren't staying home because their governors or Trump decreed that they had to stay home. They're staying home due to their own decisions. And it's really annoying seeing people on both sides act like people will stay in/go out just because our leaders dictate so.

If most people are staying home, why do you have to dictate it? That’s my whole point. If you didn’t use the barrel of a gun to enforce it it would be a hell of a lot better.

Fair enough but weed stores aren't the only ones with products that can't be easily protected against theft a lot of other goods have that issue or who's goods make it easier to deal with lockdown. If anything (and on a slightly cynical note) the main reason for them staying open is as you touched on the money angle, the self same reason the lotto offices remain open in a lot of states even though by no metric can they be called an essential service, which does lead to the rather depressing idea that the state is entirely fine risking other people's lives for it's finances but wouldn't let you risk your own life for your own finances...

Yeah you should be doing that. Fatness is a comorbidity for this.

ignoring that high casualties back then was a fact of life, you do know that travel time back then would have led people to be more able to identify covid early and quarantine it. Go ahead and stupid your mom to death, I just think we should treat you way worse than you want to treat blm protestors blocking roads.

pull an FDR, and send Chinese people to internment camps?

lol you do know the strain we got spread from Italy, right?

*Sees two diametrically contrasting opinions on whether the quarantine is justified just above him*

"You guys love to circlejerk!"

But then again you think 1910s Germany was a "backwards nation" that "produced nothing but waltzes", that Donaumonarchie is a term with some sort of sinister ideological meaning, that WW2/cold-war/modern geopolitical terms are applicable to the WW1 era, and that Vlad Tepes was the ruler of Hungary.

lol fuck the wehrmachboos, those dirty Huns/Krauts running around calling themselves counts had it coming. (Belgian patriotism booms in the distance)

Actually, the strain we got in the states that hit the West coast was from China. East coast could be from Italy.

Threadban from the Boot. Sustained 2a and 2c violations without actually contributing anything meaningful to the thread? That's a paddlin'!

The West Coast is handling shit way better, you can blame that on either good governance or filthy goomba germs making everything worse. I say we round up he guinea Dago Italians in concentration camps just to be safe.

I mean...they finally got things under control recently only.
New York City is doing horrible because the Mayor is doing horrible job.
That is the only reason the east coast is an issue is because if that.
Most states are doing well.

You do know that the Wehrmacht didn't exist during WW1, right? The simple reality is, you've repeatedly made very basic errors of historical fact. Also, you do know that the German nobility had as much validity to claim the title as any other European aristocrats at the time.

Besides , not all people who served in the Wehrmacht were evil.

They still fought for an evil cause even if they weren't involved in war crimes, but that's not the point. The point is that @HistoryMinor has repeatedly made very basic errors in historical knowledge and still acts like he has the authority to lecture us about the subject.

I mean, I dont think they really had a choice if they were in the mikitary before it became the werhmacht.

But yeah he has been making basic history errors

Why, because I spoke an opinion you dislike on the state of things and I have a different idea of liberty? What do you mean by treat me worse exactly?

Why would anyone have patriotism for a fake country who’s only notable act was to have the most brutal colonies of any European nation and that ultimately should be split between France and the Netherlands?
