There's a case where a 12yr old boy and 13yr old girl were both charged with statutory rape as adults because he got her pregnant and the laws did not allow for any exceptions. The boy was convicted and later pardoned because "this ain't right". The girl was found to be not guilty. She will be told about that one and I wouldn't be surprised if she already knows about it.

My youngest has a good head on her shoulders. She reads Fark. If you know anything about that website links to news reporting on "WTF? That actually happened?" are a regular occurance.

Your argument is essentially that video games cause people to be violence, and should therefor be banned.

Considering the fact that said answer contradicts your position, you have some explaining to do.

Because it should always be in our society's and government's interests to err on the side of caution when protecting children. They are, by definition, incapable of providing informed consent. As previously mentioned, the pedophilia issue is complex, but has shown that enabling the fantasy normalizes that behavior for the pedophile. If you allow this, then you are not necessarily advocating for legal pedophilia, but YOU ARE enabling pedophilia.

Has it been shown though? Or is it just another case of there being studies that support any position (including that video games cause violence, even though they don't), though not necessarily ones that are in any way legitimate. All I have to do to disprove that is point vaguely in the direction of Japan, which has the lowest rate of child molestation of any developed country, yet is also the most prolific in terms of the sexualization of underaged fictional characters.

Interpret what I said however you wish; I was more talking about your constant advocating for violence against people you disagree with. But hey; I'm well aware of the futility of trying to argue with someone who is thoroughly convinced that they can never be in the wrong. I'm just pointing out that setting that sort of precedent, where people can be treated like animals by those who have the power to do so, simply because of the thoughts inside their heads, is a bad idea when you don't control who has that power. Because at the very least, you wouldn't like what someone like me might want to do to you if all pretenses of civility were dropped.

Both myself and my brother got tons of participation trophies, but what was more damaging to me was the fact that the public school system seem designed to discourage you from rising above the other kids in any way; to the point where one teacher I had early on deliberately sabotaged my self-esteem regarding math, because she felt I was making the other kids look bad by finishing my assignments too early.
