It's quite true, sadly. Communists purged / exterminated our pre-war elites, replacing them with "their own". Even worse, there was no de-communisation after 1989, communist security apparatus struck a deal with "sanctioned opposition" (mostly secret collaborators of said apparatus anyway) assuring a transition of power that would see the communist "old guard" and their "gains" untouched and left unaccountable.
