#MeToo and Cancel Culture: Friday is bring your own torches and pitchforks day!

this makes me wonder how much of this kind of PTSD brainwashing, gaslighting, and isolation occurs in hollywood. It would certainly explain how so many celeberties can go from secretly visiting kids in the hospital and taking pictures at comic-con to going onto seemingly going on bipolar support rants on twitter and TV for BLM.

Also, so the woke people are in fact NAZIS!!!!!

Finished binge watching the series 'Timeless' the other day. Series started out awesome but I'm so glad it got only two seasons, the last season was getting more and more 'woke' as it went. Peak wokeness was one of the last scenes of the series where the main character who is a history professor is asked by one of her students why this semester in 'American History' course they've only covered women and she responds with "maybe we'll get around to the men after Spring break. To which the student nods satisfied and leaves (hopefully to the University Admin to demand a refund) and she walks smarmily away.

Such a pity because it started off so great before it started disappearing up its own arsehole. Even the bad guys were wokified in the last couple eps. The super powerful, centuries old dynastic secret cabaal that served as the main antagonist behind the scenes is taken over in two seconds by a 'strong independent woman (with no dynastic connections) who don't need no man' and then decided to recruit more 'sisters' to be her soldiers. Fuck me dead.

Long story short...

Alexandra Duncan cancelled her upcoming young adult novel Ember Days amidst public outcry and issued a very pathetically groveling apology letter:
SocJus Take on the Action: What the Cancellation of Alexandra Duncan's EMBER DAYS Can Teach Us About Allyship

Sane Perspective on the Action: Revolutionary Zealots Of Cancel Culture | The American Conservative

Then Publishers Weekly decided to post a story merely covering the story... but that too was pulled down and heavily edited due to internet outrage for being toxic and problematic: REMOVED: Upcoming YA Novel 'Ember Days' Canceled by Author

FYI this novel would've had a protagonist who was "a heroine from South Carolina’s black Gullah Geechee culture." The pain that would've caused!

My (likely) only response on this thread, backing out early in case things get hot, essentially just putting in my two cents i.e. exercising my freedom of speech and right to personal opinion...I am grateful that as someone who lives in Asia, cultural inertia born of thousands of years of collective-focused (as opposed to individual-focused) civilization will likely keep things from sliding to extremes the way they are in the West.

Perhaps so but consider that both China and Cambodia had thier own crazyyness. China is very telling as it's the basisfir most adian cultures. In the same way Rome is in the west. Stay tuned

Eh...not sure what you're trying to get at here. Because to me, the way China is today is why I'm reassured that society and people won't suddenly go crazy or 'woke' as it's apparently called. To be specific, the majority of Chinese not caring about their limited individual rights and participation in government among other issues, pretty much reflects the Asian standard: so long as the nation stays relatively-stable and prosperous, Asian people in general don't really like to rock the boat.

Even if incidents like what happened to Floyd happen here in Asia, any public outcry will largely focus on the individuals in question as opposed to trying to rebuild the system from the ground up. If any change will happen, it'll be slow and gradual, and even then it won't be a complete rebuild of society. Not like what's happening in the West right now. Not when there's thousands of years of cultural inertia that's much too central to any Asian's identity to just be cast aside.

TLDR: Asians generally tend to look at the bigger picture more. That is, the good of the whole/the community is more important than the good of the individual.

"Great leap forward" ring any bells? Different reasons but still insanity. Anyway this is off topic but don't get complacent.

Fair enough, I suppose. But right now, China is the strongest and most prosperous it's been in centuries, which is why most Chinese don't really mind Communist rule. At least on the mainland...anyway, as you said, this is off-topic, so I'll digress now.

Something similar happened with Cobra Kai, it started as a monument to masculinity and then in the second season it basically reversed course, and turned every form of personal growth that had occurred into a downfall.

They don't care, being outraged gives them the dopamine rush they crave, so they will pile up on anybody that has even the slightest hint of heresy on them. And remember, for them there is no innocence, accusation is guilt.

Innocence is actually worse then guilt in their eyes and they will got after people who did nothing wrong that much harder.

Its like how in the gulags actual rapists and murderers had a much easier time then innocent people.

For those who've not been following Arch and the attempt at cancelling him. They cancelled a Black Library author for going nuts on people who were threatening a 40K Youtube content creator after he made a gay space marine joke. What you won't be told is the people who were making threats were the alphabet people and Parrott, the author, was calling them racist, homophobic etc-etc. Someone complained and GW cancelled him. Enjoy the bed you made buckos.

Wasn't that because John Kreese took over and encouraged these behaviours? This said, that one shit, Dimitri or whatever, he deserves his nose punched in. Fucker kept needling the dojo of Cobra Kai, always refusing to apologize and generally being a self-serving jackass, yet the show expects us to side with him.

By the end of the first season I started getting the impression that would happen. Didn't watch the second one. There's a movie/series director in Brazil who does this sort of shit. I refuse to watch anything from him.

disappointing because honestly I felt the first season was about Johnny's redemption and danials fall from grace and how the roles were essentially reversed. I think Mr miyagi would be disappointed that Danial's kids became a bunch of undisciplined spoiled rotten twats.

Here's a question I just found myself asking: how long until calls go out for the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution to be replaced since its authors were white men who also kept slaves?

“Fair Trials” are EVIL because OBVIOUSLY the definitely guilty rapists or men are definitely guilty

And allowing a trial is spitting on the “victims” who are extremely traumatized and how dare you ask for evidence

That’s definitely one right that will be considered bigoted AF
