G&M story:
A yearbook photo of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau — his face and hands blackened by makeup — at a 2001 costume party detonated Wednesday on the federal campaign trail, instantly tarnishing the Liberal leader’s bona fides as a champion of inclusivity and tolerance and stopping the party’s re-election momentum squarely in its tracks.

Time magazine has posted the photo, which it says was published in the yearbook from the West Point Grey Academy, a private school in Vancouver, B.C., where Trudeau worked as a teacher before entering politics.

Asked whether it was the only such instance, Trudeau admitted that during a high school talent show, he wore makeup while performing a version of Harry Belafonte’s “Banana Boat Song (Day-O),” although he didn’t explicitly say the makeup was dark.

Come join me in laughing as the poster boy for diversity and multiculturalism gets hoisted by his own petard.

Good, get that shitty neolib outta there.

Hopefully the NDP can pick up whoever abandons the Liberals out of disgust and ride into government. Peoples party taking votes from the conservatives is gonna help as well

Isn't the NDP struggling to stay ahead of the Green party? Realistically, their best shot is to end up as kingmaker in a minority situation where they can influence policy. I think Trudeau's shot at a majority definitely took a hit today though.

I mean, that's where they always are, and they've come close to forming a government in the past, starting from this position.

Lib minority with a NDP coalition forcing them to do electoral reform is probably the best, realistic scenario from here

In Justin Trudeau's defense, this is not the first time he's been shown as hypocritical about his alleged sentiments and principles--he insisted a minister resign for a sexual assault allegation and made no such move to do so when the same thing happened to him.
...Wait, I was going for a defense, wasn't I?

The more concerning thing than Trudeau's incessant playing of dress-up in...patronizingly distasteful to whatever you'd characterize this as, is honestly the dudes ethics violations. My knowledge of Canadian politics is rivaled only by my grasp of international maritime transportation and stowage of sewage regulation, but surely the Liberal party can come up with a better alternative?

On semi-related note, this (and the Canadian election more broadly) and the Israeli cock-up over leadership has just reminded me how much parliamentary democracies can get slobbed into inaction and paralyzed, repeated voting with deadlocked groups. Good googly-moogly.

Interesting political tactics. Obviously this won't force Trudeau to resign (like the sexual assault allegations didn't make him resign. #MeToo unless it is inconvenient, amirite?) but there is no way that this was not discovered by some political operative back in the last election. However, with the SNC scandal and his....questionable pandering to minorities, this just adds fuel to the dumpster fire that is the Canadian Liberal Party.

That isn't actually even the biggest potential problem, theres an separatist movement in albertia that's really gaining steam, and succession is legal in Canada. If albertia leaves well um Canada emediatly runs out of other peoples money. Albertia instead of being told to fuck off everytime they ask for a pipe line to the pacific can cut off british Columbia from the rest of Canada. They also can no longer continue to bribe Quebec to stay in Canada.

And Trudeau has thoroughly alienated Albertia so....yea theres a strong possibility that we might be looking at either the end of Canada or some seriously trying times If Albertia leaves.

And the liberal party will be left holding the bag for all of it.

Are we talking "muh Texas" real or real?

We are talking about a very real problem.

Canada needs alberta more then Alberta needs canada expecially since canada's population is aging and some one has to pay for the programs. So their current tax rate? Its going to go up by a lot and its going to hurt them bad. Or they can leave canada which is legal.....

Currently its not insurmountable but the support for succession is going in albertia and once they leave that does horrible things to canada.

Secessionissm in this time?

There's a good point for the locals to leave if they have to take up the financial burden for all the political scheming.

what is with extreme left wing poltiitions and black face?

Seriously I just do not get the appeal at all.
They seem to be trying to make the Super Best Friends joke about "Blackface Boys" a real thing.

Christ, who knew Canada was the verge of falling apart (outside of Canadians). Not sure if Quebec can sustain themselves on video game studios alone though.
