Isekai And/Or ISOT Ideas, Discussions And Recommendations Thread

I had a somewhat goofy thought on playing with the genre and shifting things around.

The Most Noble Man in the World

The war is over. Evil triumphed. The armies of bestial monsters roam the land, the surviving humanoids are either quislings or cattle. The leaders of the light killed or corrupted, their fortresses now serve evil, the world is despoiled, and the land carved up between thousands of warring dark lords and ladies all vying for power ensuring an eternity of bloodshed and suffering

Then a dark magician researching a new and even more horrifying spell discovers there's a pesky balance between good and evil principle to the universe that will doom them all. Oops. Unwilling to give up his collected shinies, but also not clear on what good is, he summons a typical Isekai protagonist to let some good into the world, so that it will still be available for storing shinies in later.

Now our hero has to find a way to bring good into a world that can't even remember what it is while dealing with comically inept, though enthusiastic, minions who are determined to do good, as soon as they can figure out what it is.

Probably be very black comedy humor, possibly darker than I'd like to write but the idea seemed good.

And reversing it:

The Most Evil Man in the World
Take the above and reverse it. It's a modern-dayish setting where Magical Girls have banished all evil, purifying the world of it and bringing about lasting peace. Which turns out to be not nearly as good as planned and puts the world at serious risk of alien invasion since the magical girls are getting soft with nothing to fight and the non-magical forces have destroyed all their weapons and declared universal peace and brotherhood.

To remedy this, their magical animal mascot summons the most evil thing imaginable, a high-school aged isekai protagonist, to be a new dark lord. Unfortunately said mascot passes out from the strain of the spell so he didn't get the 411 on this situation and wanders off, eventually realizing he's in another world, but since nothing's wrong and there's no apparent reason he'd need to fight anything, he forges some paperwork to go back to high school unaware he's the most evil person in the world, able to perform horrific acts like jaywalking, swearing, and forging paperwork to go back to high school.

Reverse Isekai: An "Ascended" Berserker-Warrior Priest of the God of Violence ends upon Earth to spread the word of his God

Said "Ascended" dude has the problem in that virtually all his memories outside of combat & violence are gone and even back in his home dimension. He was a Kleptomaniacal Murderhobo.

His journey involves accidentally being labeled a vigilante after putting an axe through a mob boss' head, having to deal with (re)gaining better reasoning, emotions outside of sheer bloodlust and obsessive kleptomania, remembering slowly his pre-corrupted self

Eventually fighting against his "God" all while being lead by some punk kid acting as his "guide" through the world

Also, there are superheroes and supervillains and other fantasy kitchen sink stuff

Like Reynauld in the Darkest Dungeon? Although I accidentally cured him of his kleptomania in my latest playthrough.

You play Darkest Dungeon too? Nice

No, I'm thinking of something like an "Adventurer" who strips pretty much every single corpse he makes of its stuff and you will find large numbers of horribly mutilated naked bodies everywhere at some point

With an unlimited hammerspace

Mixed with a tendency to do scenes in which the weapons are admired and checked

Thought Criminal

Here ya go, fortunately, you don’t end up having that uncanny valley “nice guy” protagonist or borderline sociopathic sort of Isekai MC that sounds like some kid beginning to learn english

I had to reply to get a breakdown of your post and see a number that led to the amazon listing. Almuric. Looks quaint, a pulp fiction americana version of a Isekai plot in a way. Might give it a read.

Any more good ideas going on? I read a interesti g one on AH.com about WW2 american troops being sent to WW1 but I commited thoughtcrime and cant read it anymore. Anything like that?

Speaking of American soldiers, ever read works by Edgar Rice Burroughs?

Guy made the Barsoom series, a Confederate Soldier and questionably human man by the name of John Carter wakes up in Barsoom/Mars where he gets an isekai upgrade or sorts, which is enhanced physical ability due to lower gravity, surprisingly NOT overpowered with it

I actually picked up a complete John Carter book a couple of years ago... Finally got around to reading it cover to cover...

It's... pulp... At least by today's standards. The action isn't bad, but the characters and the world view definitely are showing their age. I liked the recent movie in a 'saturday afternoon popcorn flick', and don't think it deserved the response it got, but I also wouldn't be surprised if nothing else happens with the source material in a post-cancel culture world. If they followed the later books at all, well, there would be a LOT of protesting IMHO. Which is doesn't deserve, it's just a reflection of the age in which it was written.

Yeah, I know, hell Robert E. Howard was pretty racist, though even he made minority more three dimensional and likable

While it may not get to the big screwn again anytime soon, there are comicbook adaptations atm

Idea: An eldritch-biomancy-based sorcerer uses his magic to escape to another plane/planet

He finds himself in one full of primitives and low-magical presence or unawakened magical presence

He settles in a barren desert wasteland and uses his magical powers to make his "flesh-gardens"

He keeps on finding desert tribesmen trying to hunt down his monstrosities and their fruits to eat

He meets with the local king to discuss property rights, knowing that before he arrived no one owned or laid claim to the land or lived in/near it

What follows is an intense legal battle between him, the King, other rulers and the desert tribes trying to eat his subjects

Idea: A guy who planned on becoming both a writer, artist and video game designer dies due to a truck running him over

In his own room

He is reincarnated, no wait, he's actually put into a VR simulation by his talented brother and becomes a "Level-Designer"

He proceeds to make VR simulations that are Soulsborne-HELL for people to adventure in

Oh, lovely. They've sent me a mo-ron.
I remember people wrote these kind of stories with the real life actors like GoT. Sean Bean got to shag Ned's wife.

It never clicked until now but I really would like to see Trump screwing around thanks to his personality. Who's going to be the one he beats in a verbal match and calls low energy?

How about this?

Works, thanks

Actually reminds me, yeah ice zombies aside, letting the Wildlings in en masse without enough guards and military power to stop them from doing raids and “bride stealing” isn’t a good idea

It’s sorta like why I like the few Wildling-Uplift Fics around

Wherein they do NOT cross the Wall and instead have to deal with “civilization“ being built on THEIR land and reluctantly assimilating to “civilization”

A better time to release a one shot or so is whether Trump 2020 suceeds.

Then it's go time for a Trump fan who's familiar with him. Trump just being himself as he calls out fake news, bullies low energy opponents, give out nicknames, calls associates a good guy, make the place he lives in great again, maybe have a wall and does speeches to the public raising his hands in this weird flex.

Idea: A barbarian warrior who is surprisingly intelligent and skilled like other Sword&Sorcery protagonists ends up finding a way to cross "The Void Between Worlds" after discovering ancient technologies/sorceries from the local Elder Races

Alongside modifications that turned him into a more-or-less immortal fighter with a control over his biological functions

These worlds range from alternate earths, other Fantasy(that somehow have humans)worlds, alien civilisations and eldritch locations

Why stop at making him surprisingly intelligent, make him a stoic philosophy
