There are enough China haters in Congress should PRC invade Taiwan there will be a military action. As the military also hates China.

If China invades Taiwan they have basically given up any chance of gaining thier power back

Okay, that is wrong, because the military will step in and go against the people in charge is Hawaii was invaded, much less taiwan.

We have a pact withTaiwan to defend it should it come under attack from China.

If we break that pact, we lose faith in every alley in the pacific, perhaps even in Europe. We lose a lot of trading, a lot of things, all for what? To help China?

The military will not allow that
The military is already allowing worse.

What Zacho said. I have yet to see a country with a GDP the size of Poland get invaded that the U.S. was formally obligated to protect and had a vested economic interest in, the Ukraine doesn't count as it's almost always been in the Russian sphere and in no way aligned formally with the U.S. or informally.

Except, then foreign nations like the US, South korea, and Japan consider Taiwan to be a separate nation. In their eyes it is invasion of a foreign nation, and no way gives China the right to do it
no they don't. The recognition of the PRC in the 1970s had formal papers from the US, Korea, Japan, etc wherein they recognized the PRC's claim and role over Taiwan. Informal relations? Sure. Formally and on paper and in the UN, the US, South Korea and Japan recognize Taiwan as Chinese soil.

And we are still obligated to defend them, as we still see them as a country. because we treat them as such. We also gave them weapons to fight China with.

Japan will also definitely defend Taiwan, because letting China do something like that would make it harder for them, and same with South korea

The military isn’t going to allow or not allow anything. They will do as they are ordered to do. If that involves defending Taiwan from China, they will. If it involves letting China have its way with who ever, they will do that too.

Bringing up Hawaii was a bit of hyperbole, China isn’t going to invade them, but I don’t foresee future administrations being very anxious to stand up to China.

And you are wrong.
The military will act because, not doing so basically makes us a lone country that has most likely lost trade with every major ally of ours. From UK all the way to Japan and S Korea

Woah, hold on a second, are you seriously telling me that you think the US military will independently attack China against the wishes of the president and Congress? That is an extreme claim.

Congress wont be against it, because there are enough of them that hate china.

Also, as my LTC told me today, theArmy doesnt do nothing. They will always act.

Considering that our incoming President and so many in congress seem to be in China's back pocket, I have a feeling that China doing anything to Taiwan would not necessarily draw a military reaction from us.

Is it enough to counteract the effective majority the Democrats have, though? After the 20th, they will effectively hold power over two of the branches of government.

USA had pact with Poland during WW2,too.Yet democrats still gave us to soviets for free.American ambassador in Poland from that time,Artur Bliss Lane wrote book about that/I saw Poland betrayed/

So,as long as democrats are rulers, they could gave all their allies to anybody.

It is a different age. also a different treaty. We kinda did not have a choice in that matter, as they occupied Poland. You really think ti would have been beneficial to go to war with the USSR at a time when both countries were weakened?
Didn't democrats just put Eric Swalwell, who was sleeping with a Chinese spy on a homeland security panel?
And hasn't multiple members of the Dems talked about their hate for China at various points?
@The Original Sixth and @S'task Having talked with you both aboutthis kinda stuff, mind helping me out here.

Talk from politicians is with worth next to nothing. Expressing dislike for a country most Americans feel antipathy toward is a free way to score some political points. Hell, most Republicans talking about how they hate China is mostly meaningless too. What matters isn't their expressed antipathy, or even the global empire's interests, what matters is each politician's interest. Which do they get worse press coverage over? Do companies that offshored labor to China have more pull, or do companies that offshored labor to Taiwan, Vietnam, Indonesia, etc.

I agree that it would be an unnecessary risk for China- maybe companies that offshored labor to other Asian countries have more pull, so why would they risk it when they can just wait 5,10,15 or 20 years and get it anyway?

We sure as hell treat it as such. It is also one China two nations policy.

That still does not stop any country in South East Asia and the US from joining the defense of Taiwan in the event of China invasion.

I worded it wrong my bad.
The 0eople of the US see them as a separate nation, as does the mikitary in its own way.
