But as far as I can tell, he's never even tried to use what power he does have to fight corruption.
I mean what exactly would you do if you were in his position? Like the way our democracy is set up is that you elect a representative to go and be able to vote. This is different from how the Ancient Athenians had it where the citizens themselves voted on the laws. A modern day senator has roughly the same power as an Ancient Athenian citizen. If you were an Ancient Athenian and the government was corrupt what would you say? Yes you can ask the people on the council/comitte to set up a vote to impeach people who are corrupt and then you can vote but that's about it.

Considering how immigration depreciates the cost of labor, it's nice to see the Socialist Workers Party's hypocrisy on full display.,

As it turns out, socialists don't care much for socialism for the population, but rather socialism for everyone. Because the GDP of any nation or even the globe can totally be stretched over 8 billion people.

Spring is coming, and so it's not only storks returning to Europe, but also other types of migration from Africa.
Who the fuck is actually asking for these people to be shipped in? Has anyone run an actual unbiased poll on this nonsense?
If it was like "oh occasionally some struggling family barely gets ashore", okay fine, give em some soup and send them back after they get better.
But "1000 fighting age males show up and look rather grumpy about something" is a whole different scenario, especially when suspiciously wealthy NGO's are in control of it all.

No one is. It's the people being shipped who are not only asking, but even paying to be shipped in.

The ol' trick with migrants mysteriously getting on a shoddy overloaded boat for mysterious reasons, and then mysteriously having an maritime emergency when they get barely out of territorial waters and a NGO ship is nearby just keeps happening.
It's just a mysteriously repeating set of mysteries that just keeps repeating regularly in circumstances mysteriously convenient for illegal immigration purposes but are so mysterious that no official, journo, and especially human rights lawyer can understand what are they about and why do they happen on such scale and with such regularity. Such mystery, so hard to understand. They should make the next Scooby Doo show about this, would be much more interesting than the joke they did.

Follow the money, find out who is paying for the boats and convoys and charge them with human trafficking and conspiracy to violate immigration law. Treason too under an invasion narrative, just to see if it sticks, and distract them from the stuff you have a solid case on.
This is why they have lawyers and they bother states to admit the migrants under a combination of maritime law regarding emergencies and humanitarian law.
As long as Europe has bleeding hearts in position of authority this problem is there to stay.
Once it doesn't, the only solution is to target the whole profit motive behind the whole endeavor and the people at the end of that profit chain. No more welfare and generous refugee treatment, give them a bill for all the legal and humanitarian services their very improper visit required and bring back for-profit prison labor at least for non-citizens trying to get a free ride. Then the problem will disappear as mysteriously as it functioned.

93% of migrant sex crimes in Finland are committed by Islamic immigrants – Study

An investigation into Finland's police data by the country's police academy, shows that 131 Finnish citizens became victims of sex crimes committed by asylum seekers in the year 2016.

A total of 1052 asylum seekers were suspected of crimes in 2016 and virtually all were men, who together represented 29 nations. Two thirds were Iraqis and the age of the suspects was evenly distributed.

Finnish women were victims in 8 out of 10 cases committed by mostly Muslim asylum seekers: 108 out of 116 suspects of sexual offenses came from Islamic countries like Iraq (83), Afghanistan (14) or Morocco (6).

Almost half of sexual offenses were committed against Finnish girls under the age of 18 of which some were seeking men to access tobacco and drugs, the study says.

Among the sexual offenses that asylum seekers were suspected of rape is the most common, with 32% of the reports. Almost one in 7 cases, or 16%, were about was gang rape and another 16% of the reports were for sexual harassment.

3 out of 5 sexual assault with asylum seekers as suspected offenders occurred in public places, 1 in 5 in private homes, 1 in 10 at refugee centres and 1 in 4 in unknown places.

The police academy's investigation of migrant crime is the first of its kind in Finland. Only serious crimes and not violations of Finland's asylum rules were incorporated into the study.

However, radical left-liberal propaganda outlets in Bharat like The Wire continue recommending such immigration is good for Finland, with NDTV journalist Maya Mirchandani writing "With an ageing population and a falling birth rate, the Nordic nation could benefit from refugees or immigrants. Instead, a recent wave of racism is driving many out." Yet, this logic is conveniently forgotten when The Wire supports illegal Bangladeshi & Rohingya Muslim immigration into Bharat – we have a bulging youth population and no shortage of workers.

The left-liberal agenda is clear – paint Muslim immigrants as victims whatever the circumstances, overriding legitimate native concerns if need be.

Half of migrants piling into NYC not vaxxed for polio, top doc warns

A startling 50% of migrants streaming into the Big Apple are not vaccinated against the contagious and potentially deadly poliovirus, city Health Commissioner Ashwin Vasan recently revealed — as he urged doctors to help prevent a public health emergency, The Post has learned.

Vasan also said the new migrants come from, or pass through, countries with high rates of infectious tuberculosis — and noted there've been outbreaks of chickenpox in shelters housing the newcomers.

"More than 50,000 people have come to New York City (NYC) in the past year shortly after crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. As more people arrive and many make NYC their home, the scale and scope of need continues to grow," Vasan said in an eight-page letter, dated April 11, sent to physicians and other health care providers. A copy was obtained by The Post.

"I am writing now to underscore how critical it is that health care providers take a wide range of considerations into account when working with people who are seeking asylum … The scope of this letter represents the scale of the need. It is incumbent upon us as a welcoming city to comprehensively evaluate and meet these needs."

Vasan said screening and vaccinating migrants for diseases and viruses that've been kept in check in the city is a top priority.

"Vaccination rates for certain diseases are low in some of the most common countries of origin, with rates hovering around 50% for polio as an example," the commissioner said.

The polio virus spreads through person-to-person contact, lives in an infected person's throat and intestines — and can contaminate food and water in unsanitary conditions.

Paralysis is the most severe symptom of poliovirus because it can lead to permanent disability and death.

Between two and 10 out of 100 people who have paralysis from polio die because the virus damages the muscles that help them breathe, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Jay Varma, who served as the senior health advisor to former Mayor Bill de Blasio, said the number of migrants not immune from polio is a cause for concern, but manageable.

"There is always a risk to public health when people are not vaccinated against important infectious diseases, such as measles and polio," Varma said told The Post on Sunday.

"That said, the risk is not immediate, since there are high levels of vaccination among children and adults among current New Yorkers. As the Commissioner says, it is critical that the City work to provide newly arrived persons with medical care, and ensure that healthcare providers catch up newly arrived persons on their vaccinations, just as happens routinely for anyone accepted into the US through the regular immigrant or refugee resettlement programs."

The potential for public health outbreaks is one of many concerns for officials concerned about absorving the migrant influx.

Mayor Eric Adams said the estimated city tab could hit $4.3 billion to cover shelter, food and other services for asylum seekers.

In his letter, the health commissioner said doctors should ask newcomers for their immunization records "but anticipate they may not be available," adding any patient vaccine records should be entered into the Citywide Immunization Registry.

"Children should be screened and vaccinated urgently with all needed recommended immunizations, including those required for school attendance. Both influenza and COVID-19 vaccination should be offered to everyone age 6 months and older," Vasan wrote.

He also said it was important to test for tuberculosis, an infectious bacterial disease characterized by the growth of nodules in the tissues, especially the lungs.

TB in the lungs or throat is often contagious, though it's not infectious in other parts of the body, like the kidney or spine.

People with TB are most likely to spread it to people they spend time with every day, like family members.

"Many people who recently arrived in NYC have lived in or traveled through countries with high rates of TB," Vasan said.

He said people with symptoms of active TB should be promptly evaluated and tested, including chest X-rays.

He said the city Health Department's clinics provide treatment at no cost to patients, regardless of their immigration status.

Migrants should be asked if they have TB symptoms, such as extended coughing and coughing with blood, fever or night sweats, and unexplained weight loss.

"Health care providers should also assess all immigrants who recently arrived in the U.S. for latent TB infection," said the commissioner.

The letter said migrants have been infected with chicken pox.

"An outbreak of varicella is occurring among families who recently arrived and are residing in shelters and other facilities in NYC. Most cases have been among unvaccinated children, but cases have also occurred among young adults," the letter said.

Chickenpox is a highly contagious and causes an itchy, blister-like rash on the skin; it is not considered life-threatening.

"Vaccinate children and adults with no or an unknown history of varicella or vaccination urgently," Vasan said.

Typically, individual cases of varicella don't need to be reported to the Health Department.

But the commissioner said because of the recent outbreak with migrants, chickenpox cases in shelters need to be reported to the Health Department Provider Access Line.

He also urged doctors to get migrants up to speed with COVID-19 shots.

"COVID-19 continues to circulate in NYC," the commissioner said. "Some people may have received initial COVID-19 vaccinations at the U.S.-Mexico border but may not have received additional immunizations in the U.S," he wrote.

Elsewhere, the migrants need to be screened for trauma, given the often grueling and risky journey endured just to get across the Mexico-US border border and end up in New York, as well as check for sexually transmitted diseases and maternal health, he urged.

"For many people who are seeking asylum, finding refuge entails traveling long distances and enduring numerous experiences before getting help. Despite being resilient, many people seeking asylum are at elevated risk for experiencing poor mental health due to traumatic pre- and post-migration experiences and preexisting social and mental health conditions that can impair their ability to cope," the letter said.

Equally important is helping migrants apply for public health insurance since they're mostly eligible despite their undocumented or uncertain immigration status, pending asylum applications.

Children under age 18 are eligible for the Child Health Plus public health insurance program, regardless of immigration status.

Pregnant women are eligible for Medicaid, regardless of immigration status and paroled immigrants — those allowed to temporarily love or work in the US — may be eligible for public health insurance.

Others will at least qualify for Emergency Medicaid, which pays medical costs like hospital admission and treatment.

Migrant students in NYC schools without proof of vaccinations

The flood of migrant families into New York City is forcing schools to accept children who lack required vaccinations and has possibly led to one outbreak already.

The Simon Baruch Middle School in Gramercy Park had a chickenpox case, according to a Jan. 25 notice from the principal which said students not vaccinated for the illness could not attend school.

A parent at the school said after the announcement, five migrant children were absent for a few days from the class in question.

"When you are talking now about hundreds of children entering a school and coming from countries where we know the same childhood vaccinations are not available— it's hard to not see where vulnerable families could be put at risk," the parent said.

A top city health official recently told the City Council that a surprising number of migrant children who had never had a single shot were arriving in the Big Apple.

"We're seeing so many unvaccinated kids," Dr. Ted Long, executive director of the NYC Test & Trace Corps, said at a council hearing, speaking generally about the migrant influx.

An estimated 11,000 migrant children have enrolled in Department of Education schools since the summer.

The city Health Department tracks outbreaks of illnesses like chickenpox but refused to say how many it has recorded in city schools since September or comment on the Simon Baruch situation.

Carolina Chicaisa, who arrived in New York from Ecuador on Jan. 8, said her 8-year-old-son, Jareth, has been attending third grade at PS 111 in Hell's Kitchen since last week without a record of his vaccinations.

"I had proof of them from Ecuador, but I lost them in the jungle on our way here," Chicaisa said.

She said she took Jareth for blood tests to prove he was vaccinated and was waiting for the results to show to the school, which has been overwhelmed with migrant students. He is allowed to attend class until they get the proof.

Another mom from Ecuador said her son has been attending eighth-grade classes at the City Knoll Middle School, which is located in the same West 53rd Street building as PS 111, for about two months although his shots were not up initially to date.

"A month ago they asked for the vaccine records, and he did have vaccines in Ecuador but he still had to go have six more. I don't even remember which ones he got," said the mom who declined to give her name.

Students in kindergarten through fifth grade are required to get the chickenpox vaccine as well as the DTaP, MMR, polio, and hepatitis B shots. At least two doses are required for each of the vaccines.

Students are not required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

DOE rules say schools must accept kids living in temporary housing, including asylum seekers, even if they can't immediately show vaccination or academic records, according to guidance sent to principals in September.

"Students transferring from another state or country, including asylum seekers, have 30 days from their enrollment to provide evidence of vaccinations or be in the process of acquiring vaccinations," the guidance says.

They are allowed to attend school during this 30-day period.

Students who are not migrants or in temporary housing need at least the first dose in a vaccine series to provisionally remain in school. They then need to provide proof that follow-up shots have been scheduled or risk getting excluded from school, according to DOE rules.

"Both DOE and DOH work closely with families to ensure they have access to immunizations services and are in compliance with the school requirements to prevent outbreaks," DOH spokesman Patrick Gallahue said.

Test & Trace Corps staff have given in excess of 4,600 shots to more than 1,800 kids, a spokesman told The Post.

The Simon Baruch principal did not immediately return a request for comment nor did a DOE spokesman.

Gee I wonder what could possibly go wrong. The next epidemic is going to be hyper-infectious polio? Maybe with a little bat DNA for good measure
