How Would You Make Episodes 7-9?

Thirty-year time separation between Endor and FA? He joined the First Order so that his remaining family would have a better future. Mother and Sister took by slavers working for a Hutt. Homeworld was in the grey area between Republic and Empire. Neither side had the resources to properly protect it so it was a target of opportunity.

Enlisted at a young age because the recruiter told him he could make a difference in the Galaxy. Empire managed to take Finn's homeworld and protect it. He has risen through the ranks to be a senior squad leader and is entrusted with people to lead. However he has seen, first hand, the excesses the Upper leadership has gotten up to and it sickens him. He joined up to help people. Not shoot some thief who was stealing food because the Governor was hoarding the supplies.

The last straw was being sent to bumfuck nowhere because someone reported a Resistance fighter landing on the planet. He saw the report....no visual confirmation, no back up data, it feels more like the Boss wants to annext the land the village is on than a proper Rebel hunt.
Then he sees the Emo Soylo boy slaughter a few civilians to top it all off.

He is a professional. He has standards. Serve the public trust, protect the citizens of the Empire, obey the orders of his superiors. Slaughtering civilians who haven't even had a trial or chance to defend themselves? Not what he signed up for and it reminds him of the ones that took his mother and sister.

How can they be better than that scum if they use the same tactics?

As others have said. In Episode 9 he is the one to rally the New Order to overthrow the Sith members and stop what is going to happen.

Let us just age him up a bit more, make him a colonel or a major and have Avery Brooks play him.

Finn glared at Poe, " My homeworld is in the Outer Rim. For us, the Empire was a good thing. You see it skirted the edge of Republic Space and Hutt space. Yes...Those Hutts. So up until Endor, things were good until the Emperor died. Then the local Moffs started fighting each other and low and behold...the garrison was stripped and the defense force pulled away to help with the fighting."

"When I was twelve the Hutts launched a slave raid on my home planet. My father died protecting us. My mother and older sister were of 'useful' age. They left me behind, to die because I was useless to them. The First order came in to help the survivors and restore order. So when I turned 16 instead of waiting to be conscripted I volunteered and received Stormtrooper training."

"It was good, restore order, protect the innocent,... ... then my superiors, especially the black-robed cultists turned out to be worse than the Slavers. Right now I want to fulfill the oaths of the Empire I joined. Does it make me an evil person that I want to protect my fellow citizens from those that would abuse and use them? It's not like you Coreworlders give a fuck about us."

A few days ago I give a fairly sizeable post about my thoughts on the newest main movies in Star Wars. So what I would like to know is how you would have done them. Same people as before but everything else is fair game to mess around with.
-
For me, I would make Finn the main focus of the movie and not drop the whole good stormtrooper idea that lasted all of five minutes in episode 7. The attack on the village at the start of the movie still happens of course because that's the turning point for him. He would still meet up with Rey but unlike in the movie he is at least useful and is able to deal with one or two bad guys before being overtaken and saved by Rey.

As for Rey, she takes longer to get the Millennium Falcon fully under her control and she doesn't pull the million-to-one stunts shown in the movie. We get Han Solo but we remove the whole he returns to being a bad guy thing because that makes no sense and he helps her fly the ship. Han Solo becomes like a father to her and tells her stories of the old days.

The First Order are now what is left of the empire and not a wannabe empire ruled by an emo kid with family issues. The super death world is stopped before it blasts the new government and Rey is beaten and left to die by Kylo Ren. She is saved by Flinn who goes with Rey to find Luke. Luke is slow to train them in the ways of the Jedi but does so after a few days. Both Rey and Flinn are slow but are seen mastering their fighting over days. The movie ends with a zoom-out as the pair train with Luke watching over them both.
Drop Rey, and make Kylo Ren, Finn and Poe the Main characters, change up the cast to be more lore accurate to the comics, and make Snoke the Bad guy. Snoke and the Resistence's battle is intervened on by the Yuuzhan Vong, leading to both factions being wiped out, alongside the Vong invasion, allowing for a galactic reset on the national order, perhaps a Galactic Empire, or a Galactic Republic springs up, or perhaps what remains is divied up between war lords, but either way the force is brought to a balance and Rey 'Skywalker' never exists.

Why aren't we funding this...
In all honesty, it looks like you have a pretty solid AU idea, ever thought of turning it into a fanfic ?

EDIT: tbh I think that this version of Finn should be highly competent, but pretty bad about the more human aspects of life, since his harsh experiences and years of very dedicated service have made him unable to live outside of an uniform or stormie armor.
ALSO, HE IS A CRACK SHOT!

On a related note, I made a Star Wars fanfic ideas/recs thread.

Some thoughts on Finn, he is Force sensitive. He just doesn't know it. He never received training for it and sees all Force users as robed Cultists.

Finn: "I have nothing against so-called 'Force Users' but...in my experience, there is nothing separating the so-called Jedi from the Sith except for the color of their swords. Both will bend the will of other people. If it suits their purposes. Both will abuse their abilities for their own profit. The Sith are simply more honest about it."

Age...34 or so.Much like Han Solo. Like most soldiers, he can gamble, and drink. He sees paperwork as a necessary evil. He is uncomfortable out of uniform. Not certain what to do. He has spent 18 years in the military. He can get around but he will be nervous and unsure of some things. Finn reached the rank of Commander in First Order Stormtrooper corp. He can lead troops and he can train troops. Which could help the Resistance. He could train new members in infantry tactics and weapons.

I think that If I had to keep to the same characters, I would have delayed Finn's defection to the second or third movie. If the prequels were about Anakin's fall to the dark side and the original trilogy was about Luke growing up and defeating the empire the sequel's could have been about Finn rising up to join the light. In the forth movie Luke had wanted to join the empire and several of the rebels in the original trilogy were noted to have defected from the empire but nothing ever really came of that so having a story of someone that did join the empire and saw Hux and Kylo ren as leaders could have been interesting especially if it contrasted with some of the nasty stuff the rebels did in the movies such as the brain drain monster in rogue one.

I only really have an idea for the first movie but let's throw something together for all three.

The story could start with Poe escaping capture and finding Ray who helps him hide so they can interact where he's searching for them but neither know about it romcom style or if they do get captured have him need to provide food and water or interact with them in some other way. Maybe have Rey sense his doubts and reach out to him to pull him into the light but something other then a sudden attack of conscience five seconds in would have been nice. The first movie should have given him more time as a storm trooper and ended with him defecting to join the rebellion. It should have also had a lot more running and hiding from the first order until they could get to safety and get trained. Kylo can lurk in the background but mostly rely on storm troopers to find them.

I can't remember anything of value in the second movie so maybe have the Jedi training happen and make a play on the fact that Rey felt more like a Sith then Kylo and needs her friends as bonds she can draw on so that she doesn't flip out and murder people like Anakin sometimes did in the prequals. I'm thinking that the main plot could be that a new republic strike force finds a weakness they can use to kill Snoke but it turns out that Kylo arranged it to take control and planted a hidden bomb on the base that would kill all of his enemies and his master at the same time and they have to escape before a timer goes off. Snoke finds out through the force and escapes and Luke noticing the escape and the smaller amount of the dark side sees the attack in time to shield them with the force but is injured.

Snoke having escapes catches Kylo as he runs and scolds him for relying on cheap tricks rather than the force, the same lesson Vader gave the Moff onboard the death star and attacks the disapointment. Kylo and Snoke duel and Kylo gains enough character development to win and take the title of darth and the movie ends. For the third movie, Rey hopefully has her anger issues under control and has become a good Jedi well Kylo takes the lessons he learns from Snoke to not be as emo. The two realize that they can't avoid the fight any longer and both go to the center of the battlefield to have a duel that involves them bitch slapping around AT-ST's

To be honest the biggest issue I had with the sequel trilogy is that it never really seemed to have a coherent plan going forward. It always seemed like interesting plot points would be introduced and then just as we start to get behind the idea, they all get dropped like a stone in water. It also didn't help that Rey is about as interesting as watching paint dry or grass grow. We start out with a girl living on a discount Tatooine who can kick some major ass with a pole to a girl on discount Tatooine who can kick some major ass but now she has a glow stick and magic space powers. She was 99% the same in episode 9 as she was in episode 7. Why should I care when the people making the movies couldn't be bothered to write her to be enjoyable to watch.

Episode VII - Heir to the Empire
Episode VIII - Dark Force Rising
Episode IX - The Last Command

Don't oversaturate the market. At most, continue printing existing materials, along with supplementary products for the films, i.e. figurines, posters, art books, data files, etc. Wait for at least one year after Episode IX before announcing the next project, and don't air it until a year after that.

As for what project...either a live-action adaptation of the Rogue Squadron novels (you want more strong female characters...allow me to introduce Ysanne 'Ice Queen' Isard, Director of Imperial Intelligence) or an animated adaptation of Dark Empire. Either way, whichever doesn't get picked gets the next slot after the previous one finishes. Minor retcons for Dark Empire, just to set the timeline, with Dark Empire's events now taking place after the Thrawn trilogy.

After that, assuming Disney still hasn't booted me off, it's off to the past, with a live-action adaptation of Knights of the Old Republic. Two seasons each for Revan and Meetra's respective story arcs, plus a standalone movie to depict Revan's final doomed mission to Dromund Kaas, with succeeding events explored in the ongoing MMORPG The Old Republic. Maybe a supplementary comic series, with each of SWTOR's PCs getting their own distinct future timeline, i.e. what happens in the timeline where the PC was the Jedi Knight, the Consular, the Bounty Hunter, the Imperial Agent, etc.

Finish Star Wars Legacy, and then maybe Episodes X to XII adapting the Jedi Academy trilogy. Skip most of the succeeding novels, which were all meh, and go straight to NJO. Animated adaptation? Not too sure...again, NJO is hit or miss at the best of times, then again, the same can be said for Filoni and his version of Clone Wars (only Tartakovsky's version is canon for me), so could work, if not really into it.

If Legacy is to be adapted, make it live-action. After that...let's go back to the distant past, with more animated adaptations of either the Dawn of the Jedi, the Great Hyperspace War, or the Great Sith War. That, or the New Sith Wars, focusing on the rise of Darth Bane, the Ruusan Reformations, and the seeds being laid for the ultimate downfall of the Republic.

Buba

A total creep
To escape the cliches, I'd have Leia hate Rey as she is Not Good Enough for her Baby Boy.
:p
Also - how am I supposed to like Finn, the cowardly notorious deserter of all causes?
And don't get me going on Poe ...
I wrote a small protest fic/wishlist fic years ago:

With a sprinkling of my customary innane and unnatributed quotes from poorly writen smut (authors suspected to be teenagers).

That was a big problem that comes with having multiple directors that hate each other trying to do the same movie trilogy.

My main problem with the sequel trilogy was that the last jedi would have been made better by replacing the part with fins adventure off ship with a random heist movie given how completely pointless the entire arc was. The other main problem was that overall the story didn't feel like star wars to me. when I went into the force awakened movie it felt the exact same as watching JJ's star trek remake.
