I don't see the issue. They're expressing solidarity with the more peaceful protesters on the issue of Floyd's death (which is perfectly reasonable), I don't think it means they won't confront the more violent protesters.

They shouldn’t be expressing solidarity even if they do sympathize. As soldiers it’s not their job to engage in this sort of political demonstration. Even if the soldiers have the right to privately believe “I sort of agree with the protesters”. Joining them even for something like this is extraordinarily dangerous.
