Since I didn't see one, I decided I would make one.
This is the thread for discussing Creative Assembly's "Total War" series. New releases, patches, gaming stories, complaints, wish lists, mod ideas. The whole gamut.
To start off the thread. Got a recent Medieval 2 experience.
I was sieging Pernau in Medieval 2 Teutonic as Lithuania and had to deal with a Danish relief army.
While I outnumbered the Danes, their unit quality was much superior.
So what did Invictus do?
I made a box. Or rather a large square. Basically all spear militias would be stretched and formed to create a square. Inside the square were my archers of which I had a lot, as well as some other spear units and heavy infantry-these units were however intended to support the main lines. As they were themselves heavily weakened. On the flanks was my missile cavalry.
The Danes attacked, and I held off the first army. Then I held off the second. I lost relatively few troops, while their armies were shattered.
I have no doubt if I had simply had my men in standard formation, with spearmen in front, archers then cavalry, the superior quality of Danish troops would have resulted in my militia routing. And my missile cavalry rendered useless.
The long square protected the archers and allowed them to concentrate supporting fire, while my missile cavalry could harass and support from the flanks.
I won.
Anyway, that's just me tooting my own obvious strategic genius, but I decided I would make a thread for the total war series.
