The trend of fatal police shootings in the U.S. seems to only be increasing each year, with 1,097 civilians, 225 of whom were Black, killed by police in 2022.

Blacks get shot more based on their population sizes (there's about 5x more Whites than blacks in the USA, but Whites only get shot 2x as much)
However this is because they do a laughably higher amount of crime, so they get involved with the police more often.
When you factor in how many times they interact with the police THEN they get shot less per capita.
But in terms of absolute numbers for how many there physically are, they get shot more. Because they do more crime.
You are using the terms wrong.
Absolute amounts is just counting without factoring anything else.
In absolute amounts, whites get shot more often
in 2023 police killed 412 whites and 224 blacks. that is the absolute amounts killed in 2023.
adjusted per capita means "by head". it is when you adjust the shooting for the population.
The census office alleges that there are 333m american citizens according to census.
They allege 13.6% are black which means 45.288m are black
They allege 58.9% are white (non hispanic) which means 196.137m white.
Thus you can calculate a per capita value. usually people use a per 1k, per 10k, 100k, or 1m value.
For every 1 thousand white people 0.0021 are shot per year by police.
For every 1 thousand black people 0.0049 are shot per year by police.
For every 1 thousand people 0.1289 die in car accidents per year.
In this case only, blacks get "shot more often".
Then you finish adjusting for things like "per police interaction". Which has whites shot way way way more often.
Or "per resisting arrest" which has whites and asians shot way way way more often than blacks.
and so on. those are the adjusted per capita values.
Actually the people most victimized by the police are asian.
Whites being 2nd place in most victimized by police.
blacks are in last place as the least victimized by police.
(being shot after you pulled a gun on the police is not being victimized by police)
The interesting part is that in order to actually get a higher victimization rate for blacks you need to ignore the raw numbers, and ignore the fully adjusted numbers, and focus entirely on partially processed numbers where you adjusted them just so to find an angle. This is lying with statistics.
