...That's one of the most sympathetic reasons I can see for deliberately causing a mistrial. I still don't agree with it, especially in this day, when you can easily get at least a modicum of support for almost any reason on GoFundMe and the like.

I have a handicapped elderly mother. I am the sole caretaker, and sole wage earner im my house. I was summoned for jury duty, and coupdnt be excused at all, at first. Finally, in front of the judge and attornies, i explained the whole situation to them all. I had paperwork, paychecks, doctors notes explaining my mom's handicap. The attorneys were complaining that i could afford to hire someone. So i showed them how much it would cost us. Oh my god so much whinging and complaining. Finally, i just told the judge that because of their lack of compassion, lack of intelligence, and even common sense, i was prejudiced against both of them. Judge mutter "so am I." And excused me, apologizing for wasted time. Good man, that judge.

That's correct; immunity is granted to the post, not to the person(and therefore, not to the person's family).

Basically, diplomatic immunity can be revoked and is for the person that IS the diplomat.

The concept of immunity changed over the years / ages. It used to be absolute, or near-absolute, but over time it became functional. Namely that it covers only activities directly related to performing the function of the ambassador, and nothing past that.

You can't in some states. Simply having economic hardship frequently isn't enough of a reason (again, in some states).

Basically, diplomatic immunity can be revoked and is for the person that IS the diplomat.

Not precisely. It can actually encompass family (this is why kids of diplomats don't actually get US citizenship even if born in the US, because they aren't subject to US jurisdiction). It can also vary about if something is in process of official duties or not. As a classic example, North Korean Diplomats using counterfeit US Dollars, or the number of parking tickets not paid by UN diplomats in NYC.

Basically, there's a variety of rules, and "it depends" is usually the best answer.
