Five minutes of hate news

Best Korea is now putting children to work in its mines. But it's not forced labor, they're "volunteering." According to state-run media, dozens of orphan children are simply rushing towards the mines in an effort to repay even just a millionth of the love the party showed.

It seems to be an elegant solution in the minds of the NK government; I suspect orphans is an abundant resource in North Korea.

It is OK to kill people if you fear they will escape your carjacking attempt.

No they wouldn't; their entire ideology is based upon the precept that they control every aspect of your life. No way they'd give you an avenue of escape from that.
With exception of those who oppose them. They would commit suicide in soviet way.
/there is soviet joke about Majakowski suicide - that his last worlds were "comrades,do not shoot me"/

The Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) which is basically a licensing board for Engineers, issued a $1500 fine towards one of its members for identifying himself as an engineer in speeches and articles during a period of time he temporarily failed to renew said license.

How it started:

Reason said:
Marohn's problems began in February 2020. That's when a South Dakota engineer, David D. Dixon, submitted a complaint to the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) after reading an article authored by Marohn that was critical of traffic engineers... "Mr. Marohn talks about being a policy expert, the type that reads law and ordinance. It is not reasonable to assume that Mr. Marohn was not aware that use of the term Professional Engineer, PE, or other similar representations while not licensed, is a violation of law," Dixon says in his complaint. "I urge the board to investigate as it sees fit, and to send a clear message that frauds of this sort are not tolerated."

Marohn received notice of this complaint from AELSLAGID in July 2020, over a month after he'd already renewed his expired license.

So it starts with a triggered out of state engineer issuing a complaint in bad faith. But what excuse does Mr. Charles Marohn have for this oversight?

Reason said:
Marohn has been a licensed engineer in the state since 2000. In 2016, however, he moved without informing the board, and thus missed the biennial renewal reminder that was sent to his old address in 2018. In June 2020, a co-worker brought it to Marohn's attention that his license had lapsed. Screenshots of Slack messages that Marohn submitted to AELSLAGID show him reacting with surprise at the news. He renewed it the same day and also paid a late renewal fee of $120. His lawsuit notes that he'd also completed the required continuing education hours during the time his license was expired.

Seems reasonable... but it wasn't and the board issued him a $1500 dollar fine and told him he would have to sign a legal document stated he willfully misrepresented himself as a licensed engineer. Shockingly, he declined and thus it went to a (virtual) hearing in March which led to what apparently is quite obvious, the issue is with Marohn's politics, not his licensing.

Reason said:
One member of the board, he says, expressed concern that his description of himself as an engineer in talks he gave at Google, The American Conservative, and TEDx might make people more likely to listen to his ideas, thus endangering public health and safety.

That notion "is ridiculous because it's not like I was any less qualified during the gap in my licensure," says Marohn. "I was just talking; I'm giving a speech."

Marohn offered to pay a $500 fine and a "stipulated" order that he had identified himself as an engineer while his license had lapsed but would not admit to being "untruthful" or making "false" statements. However the AELSLAGID refused his settlement so now Marohn brought a lawsuit against them in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota with a legal team from the Institute of Justice.

Sounds like that board is more interested in policing politics amongst its members, than anything to do with the field of engineering.

This is one of the many reasons why I think we are going to have a major religious revival soon.
Whatifalthist at YouTube recently pointed out that, in every century since the Pilgrims came to the (current)US, the 40s have been a decade of religious flowering.

EDIT: Fixed the guy's screen name

Yeah I don't see any problem with that. As long as everyone involved is a consenting adult, the government has no business getting involved in what people do in the bedroom.

Here's hoping it's not the "burning heretics at the stake" sort of religion.

This article doesn’t break down the results by race so I will: 25% of white men and 35% of white women had answers other than favorable of America’s involvement. Blacks and Hispanics were 55% and 44% respectively.
For a comparative viewpoint, here is a survey from last year about young people’s knowledge of the holocaust:
This survey does NOT break down results by race beyond who was surveyed, but the inferences you can make from that won’t make Dems happy.
Let’s focus on the most telling question: people who think the real jewish death toll was 2 million or less. It’s one thing not to know that 6 million jews died, but coming to conclusions that the death count was lower takes actual decisions. California, and Texas (possibly blue, strongly blue, red) are all in the low 30s with the same split general between whites and hispanics. California’s respondents were least white at 42% white and 28% hispanic but “white hispanic” is a thing so the lines could be blurry. Georgia (33% black respondents and supposedly blue for good) is near majority minority but was 36%. Whites seemed overrepresented in Virginia and Minnesota (solidly blue) but they were also in the 30s.
I don’t want to debate the holocaust, I could be wrong but it seems like “the browning of america” is going to have unintended consequences for more prevailing narratives than the ones progressives prefer.
GA won't stay blue forever. The state is doing everything to prevent that
