Here's an interesting bit of news. A teenager by the name of Cayler Ellingson was recently murdered in North Dakota for his political beliefs, specifically because he was a Republican.

This is the natural result of the Democrats calling their political enemies fascists and enemies of democracy. This is also probably the intended result. I expect this sort of thing become more common as time goes on.
At least since this happened in North Dakota Ellingson's family has a chance at getting justice. I hope the murderer gets the death penalty, or at the very least life in prison.

The max for what he's been charged with is 20yrs. He wasn't charged with murder even though that's probably an open and shut guilty verdict based on the article.

I think it's finer to use that truism when dealing with people in real life. Don't use it when it comes to politicians, online in social media, and when evidence is apparent to the contrary.

I don't understand why he wasn't charged with murder, especially given how that semi driver who accidentally killed someone because he had his nose in his phone was treated. They gave him a 108 year sentence. Meanwhile this fucker does it on purpose over politics and at worst he might face 20?

It's exactly because he did it over politics that's the reason they're not going as hard on him; the establishment wants to encourage this sort of behavior, if only towards what they consider the right targets.

He got the default charges to hold him while they investigate. I read this as the DA testing the waters. Depending on what the investigation pulls up, well this could get wild. They just need to be sure it wasn't a neo-nazi who declared fatwa on the driver or something silly before they go all in.
Or I'm totally wrong and a super red state has another Soros DA who wants to push this kinda thing.
They are considering adding stronger charges from what I've read. The initial charges seem to be obvious ones designed to get an arrest. Basically, what @WolfBear said.
