(Farscape) Why are Leviathans not at all militarized?

You can in theory breed them, provided they're happy they self replicate.

They Bred Moya. But no Leviathan gunship survived the birthing process until Talyn. And it was Chricton and the crew who figured it out. That was why Talyn was crucial to the Peacekeepers. They had hope he'd be the first of a new generation of warships.

Talyn was suspected to grow to twice the size of Moya and he would have started growing more weapons and defensive systems. He may have even grown his own defense screens. A feat that would have been monumental. Say what you want about the Peacekeepers (and I say a lot with none of it being good) but when it came to designing Organic warships like Talyn they really outdid themselves. Talyn was a thing of beauty.

And they purged the one guy who knew how to do it and apparently had 0 backup or oversight of the research...

Well, given that they couldn't bioengineer themselves to survive the Heat Death I am not that impressed.

Also, I think that there were quite a few Leviathans around, since the convoy Crais was overseeing had lots of them IIRC.

But if they want to bolt guns on them they can probably use the Bulgerian approach to training gusrd dogs.

The dog gets put in place while a puppy, then some stranger comes into the yard and lures it in with food, only the food will make it ill later and then beats it so that it must learn that strangers must be attacked and never trusted.Only the household members are 'good'.

That and cutting off their ears and feeding it to them to make them more vicious.

So, Leviathans can be "captured" by "evil pirates" who will do lots of damage, torture the Lecisthan, maaaybe kill it's pilot, then the PKs come in and "save the day".

Oh, yes, we will take care of you, poor pacifist space whale, but could you perhaps help us in our quest to rid the galaxy of these degenerates.
We will even repair all the damage either out tech and, err, improve things.

So you get a vengeful space whale janissary with extra weapons bolted on that thinks it owes you it's life....

Budongs were iirc big enough to eat whole fleets.

Something about a Lecisthan being the size of one's tooth.

All righty, having watched more of the show, even Talyn isn't particularly effective.
A warship who can develop mental problems is...A very bad idea lmao.
Although proportionally speaking he punched above his weight class, what a boss.

He is still a kid.

Also, he didn't get the "proper" peacekeeper upbringing and was the first ever prototype.

Bugs and oddities always occur during development.
That's true, he wasn't intended to have a pilot's den but none the less he grew a vestigial one.
The 'production' models would've lacked even that, in theory at least.
One thing which still confuses me is he is referred to as a 'hybrid levithan-gunship'.

...Gunships are a species now? XD

Talyn bonded with Stark as his 'pilot'. Let me put that into perspective. Stark! The raving psychotic nut job who is 3 fries short of a happy meal and prone to psychotic breaks from reality. This is ontop of Talyn not having a happy childhood, which is putting it mildly. Such as learning he was a pregnancy forced on his mother, he is different from other Leviathans and considered an abomination by them and thus rejected by hid people. He's had multiple traumatizing incidents such as a being eaten from within by some sort of internal parasites, to actually being eaten by a Budong. Multiple engagements with hostile alien races and so much more. Oh and with all that, he was being actively hunted by the Peacekeepers. Thus putting his mother in danger every time they linked up. A fact he was acutely aware of.
His first parental figure who actually understood him was a racist, xenophobe and sociopath for a Captain in Crais. Sure Crais mellowed our towards the end but he left an imprint on Talayn which did not mellow with time and only got worse.

Given all that. Is it any wonder Talyn had a few screws loose?
