Evil Genius 2 just launched for preorder on Steam. 15% off plus bonus items if you preorder it.

I never played the original Evil Genius, but I know its considered a classic. Anyone planning on buying it?

What's it aboot?

Its a campy strategy game in which you play a Bond villain with an island fortress (hiding behind being a snazzy resort) who sends his henchmen on missions to further his goal of world domination.

Yeah I've always wanted to play a Dungeon Keeper style game (I like games like Tropico which are obviously more Macro) but watching Lets Plays of a lot of them, I just don't think I'd get into any of them really. But this game does intrigue me... I'll have to keep an eye on it since I don't think I wanna cold commit to a pre-order even with a discount.

Yeah, the original Evil Genius was an excellent idea and it had some really neat gameplay mechanics and a 50s/60s/70s supervillains & spies feel to it, but unfortunately it was plagued by bugs and some poorly-designed levels. Assuming they've not made the same mistakes they did the first time (and properly bugchecked everything), I'm thinking Evil Genius 2 is gonna be a great game.

I'm planning on pre-ordering, but it'll have to wait until I get my next paycheck. Haven't decided whether to get the base game or the deluxe edition, though.

I'm planning on picking it up, the original was flawed by fun. I'm hopeful for this new version.

Similar to Dungeon Keeper in many ways, but I heard it was rather flawed execution.
The final mission was bugged so that I could never finish it, even by cheating, but it is still good enough that I regret not being able to find my disk for it.

So, Evil Genius 1 is a (flawed and bugged) game where you play as, well, an Evil Genius where you build your lair and set things up for your quest of WORLD DOMINATION!

It's full of camp and cheese and a lot of the enjoyment is that camp and cheese. Remember how Red Alert became a lot more fun to play when it had camp and cheese instead of the stoically depressing original setup? This game is the same way but it goes full camp and cheese right out the door.

Was part of the discussions about this one way back...

If it's good, great; I love the camp of spy films during their heyday. If not, that's a shame. Regardless, I'm not preordering and will never do so for any product.
