Ennio Morricone, whose haunting, inventive scores expertly accentuated the simmering, dialogue-free tension of the spaghetti Westerns directed by Sergio Leone, has died. He was 91.

Even if you don't know the name, you've probably heard his iconic scores in numerous Hollywood films going back decades.
He was the composer for John Carpenters The Thing, Red Sonja, the British TV series Space:1999, the Connery era Bond films Dr. No, From Russia With Love, & Thunderball and the 1980 film The Missionary for which he received an Oscar nomination. He also collaborated with Quentin Tarantino on the films Kill Bill, Django Unchained & The Hateful Eight. He also collaborated with Directors ranging from Brian De Palma to Wolfgang Peterson.
The most famous films he composed for were likely the Clint Eastwood spaghetti Westerns A Fistful of Dollars, A Few Dollars More & The Good, The Bad and the Ugly.
