I remember when a box of cigars was 1/6 of what it costs today, for example.
The cigars I smoke are $0.99 ($1.06 with tax) for two. You can get five for that if you don't want a plastic or wood tip.

A pack of cigarettes is several times more expensive.

The same levers they have used to gut the stock market; fucking around with shit and blaming Putin for it.

The boomers are retiring in mass and they are not coming back to the workplace.

Most of the baby boom generation did not have kids in large parts of the developing and developed world and mexicos baby bust a couple decades back is hitting right now. Appreciation of wages is going to happen because quite simply the amount of workers is going down.

Sure...we'll see how far their retirement stretches once INFLATION keeps running along. I imagine we'll see a lot of them come back for spending money.

This is a generation that partied harder and did more drugs then any generation before or since. For a lot of them they physically cant go back to work. You can only get so much blood from a stone.

The Fed can come after people like me with a $537/hour engineering billing rate if they really want to.

Kiss everyday conviences like working toilets and bathroom sinks goodbye. That's just the plumbing. An angry engineer with a hardhat and permission can easily shut down a major city.

In 06? I could have easily brought down ELI Lilly and half of Indy just by scewing up a poweplant valve position.

My work wasn't checked. I was in my late-20s. Think about that for a bit.

Janet Yellen is an idiot towing the "green energy" party line while being completely wrong about it. You can not make solar panels or wind turbines without fucking up the environment is some way.

The solar powered scientific calculator in the armrest of my car - which I bought for about $20 from a convience store, BTW - is an enviromental disaster mostly made out of plastic.

You just bought something made out of plastic? Congratulations, you just supported a coal mine or an oil field.

Well about that. Graphene: The Future of Solar Cells? (azom.com)

Technology is advancing at a scary pace. Just saying.

But I am more of a Big tent type of person. We can have Wind, Solar, Coal, Natural Gas, Geo Thermal, Hydro Electric and Nuclear as all options for Power Production. I don't dis any options. I just view them as options.

Graphine is an array benzene rings in a sheet with some oxygen and hydroxide attached to the edges. The atomic structure looks an awful lot like a boardgame hex-map.

It's not something which can be made without stripping a whole lot of hydrogen from a bunch hydrocarbons.
Sigh. The US Navy has been stripping Hydrogen from water since the 1950s. This myth needs to die that you can only get hydrogen form hydrocarbons.

You've got it backwards.

Graphene is almost pure carbon. Making it requires getting rid of hydrogen.

BTW: Carbon prefers to be in a +4 or -4 oxidation state and will happily form carbon-carbon chains with 60° bond angles.

Eh.

You need a energy supply to do it, and hydrocarbons are part of getting one, in pretty much all cases.
You can get it from plant matter. Some Plastics are made from plant matter for instance
Top 2 Methods Used to Produce Plastics from Plants | Biotechnology (biotechnologynotes.com)
And Plants are Carbon based lifeforms. So there is a good source for carbon.

Just take it from plant matter. And we have tons of that in yards around the US. Aka Lawn waste.

I can not take that article seriously when it starts with:

Fermentation, used for hundreds of years by humans, is even more powerful when coupled with new biotechnology techniques.

Because one of the first things considered important enough to write down on clay tablets thousands of years ago back when writing a was still a new thing was a recipe for beer.

EDIT: That one sentence told me that the rest of it would be complete bullshit. I got about two pages into it when I said to myself "I'd rather read an engineering masterspec, again".
