It'd be nice. It's not like they lack the capability to build nuclear plants or even to use the coal they already mine and export (though I'd personally rather they NOT do that instead). They are a first rank capability technological society, they can build and tech out of Russian gas but it will hurt getting there and take time and investment and they may lack the political will to do it.
