United States Capital Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) & The Warlord Raz Saga

@Cherico Indeed it would be. I can only hope the poor man would have Soywalker'd the guards with farming tools before his end.

If indeed he was executed.

There are unconfirmed rumours that Raz was boasting about executing the mentally ill homeless man who wrecked the communal farm, but I haven't found a source yet.
If they've actually been stupid enough to execute someone then they'll have managed to do something so severe that not even their defenders will be able to muster up anything to defend what's going on there anymore.

So now it appears there's at least FOUR of these Autonomous Zones in the process of being established across the US:
  1. Seattle's CHAZ obviously
  2. The University of Chicago's Police HQ has been occupied
  3. Asheville, NC is by all accounts working on one
  4. Nashville, TN has occupied the capitol grounds
I hate to say I told you so, but...

Crackdown on autonomous zones: Tennessee governor says he won't tolerate protester camp in Nashville as North Carolina cops tear down barricades - but Seattle police union says city is near 'lawlessness'

I told you so.

I'm sure they'll try to defend it though; either that, or turn Raz into a scapegoat for everything.

An article on it from over here

fairly neutral but one thing of note...

Carmen Best, the first black woman to become Seattle’s police chief, wants her station back. “I am very angry about the situation that we have and at this point we just want to make sure that it gets resolved,” she said.

She says emergency call response times have tripled. “Rapes, robberies and all sorts of violent acts have been occuring in the area and we are not able to get to it.”

Care for anyone to check the history banks, did similar things happen in the 1960s anti war and SDS protests?

I don't know of any specifically, but surely someone more literate on the era than me can say one way or another?

Dual power in the Bolshevik sense requires it to actually be a government, in the sense that there are elections and some semblance of people engaged in the process as well as basic services-like handing out bread and soup. Even more working class people refusing to do any labor that supported the established government. To be sure, they could develop into such forms if given time, but if Trump dithers he could be this century's Kerensky instead of Nixon.

There is also the fact that liberal state and city governments more or less tolerate these areas and don't crack down on them. Either out of sympathy or patronization, "let the kids paint graffiti art and smoke weed". Which isn't really dual power-dual power is supposed to challenge established authority, not continue to be allowed to exist because the established authorities are fellow travelers.

Which is why see this happening in already liberal cities. Of course the fellow travelers may more or less let them continue to the extent they do become dual power, only providing electricity and only resources the communes can not attain for themselves without actually challenging even the liberal city authorities.

Which creates an ultimately static dynamic-the communes continue to be dens of iniquity and comedy, while the city governments keep the money flowing.

So basically...liberal kids protesting while living off daddy's bank account simply enlarged in scale.

It kills a lot of their arguments that "this is just a normal festival" "nothing strange is happening" stone dead. Even discussing why exactly Raz is important and in charge of armed goons is a body blow to the whole affair.

Well well well... Didn't go so well for them with a Governor that wasn't giving them a easy time. Who could have guessed.

If its basically young people "doing art, watching documentaries, and having glorified youth camp" then its not autonomous or any actual threat to the government. Its basically a music festival on the grass with drugs, promiscuity, and cops hanging back 100 yards away to make sure the kids don't get too rowdy.

We have confirmed that the claim of Raz executing the Hobo was from a parody account... But the Seattle Chief of Police is also saying she’s being forced to stay out while rapes are taking place, so... Not that much of an improvement.
