New chapter is out. Pretty short, but...

Looks like during the previous Eclipse that sent Skull Knight on his current path, he encountered a different set of God Hand, aside from Void. And seemingly lost a woman close to him as well.

Wonder what this forebodes for the current God Hand. Maybe there's a cycle, and certain members (so Femto, in this case) lead new sets each time the 'hand' is filled out?

I’ve seen it on TvTropes, but the speculation that there’s a cycle of Godhands is a thing.....question is, was there a previous Great Roar or merging of the Astral Plane and this one? Something tells me that while previous millenia had people worshipping or having good relations with the Spirits of the Astral Plane, it wasn’t that physically close and while they can kill Astral Beings and Apostles with their primitive weaponry and cannonfire, there are too many of them at the moment and it would require places like Falconia for mankind to adapt to the monsters and make things like castletowns or forces to deal with monsters

And what could have happened to the previous four? “Killed” by Skull Knight? Or reincarnated into Griffith and the next Godhand members?

My guess at this time is absorbed into the Idea of Evil, or something like that.

I thought the implication was fairly straightforward that God Hand members are just apostles writ large, and Skull knight has killed at least four. He seems to think he can injure them, and they actively avoid his attacks.

One thing I notice about the Godhand, it seems that the rest of the Apostles’ abilities are more “physical” and don’t have the same sorts of defences the Godhand got like spatial manipulation and even telekinesis, so Skull Knight back then must have found a way around those defences to actually be able to land blows

Just thought, how much of humanity is still alive atm?

While yes, human weapons can kill supernatural beings, there’s a level of numbers, logistics and organization involved. Especially for the guys who aren’t Guts.

People still need to eat food, they probably can barely farm anymore, fishing and hunting are probably extremely dangerous

And if they’re gonna have to eat anything, it will either be each other or they end up all psycho enough to start eating troll meat

Reminds me of what Shadivserity said when he was advertising his book (Shadow of the Conqueror, I think?), where he pointed out that in a monster infested world where it was dangerous to walk out of town, farmers would probably be heralded as a dangerous and venerable occupation, risking their lives to grow and bring back food (why not just build walls around your farm area then? But yes farmers would probably have to be ready for combat).

Those walls would have to be both strong and tall and that doesn't account for those monsters that can fly or jump or even dig over it

Humanity maybe more likely to survive if these monsters were smaller in number and lived on the edges of civilisation

You are making huge assumptions about how common the monsters are.

Dang. RIP.

As for the Berserk series itself, yeah the art was good but I tuned out after the Golden Age arc. Golden Age at least had hope. Then all of the likeable characters die, and you're just following Guts (who has become an unlikeable asshole) wandering around this hopeless world and there isn't really any plot advancement happening. 300 chapters and they never took out any of the godhand. 300 chapters and 0 out of the 5 big bads killed. Also, the chapter releases became extremely spoardic during the last decade, so I completely forgot about it for a long while.

Rest in peace, Mr. Miura. And thank you for giving us such a great series.

Question is, what will become of it now?

Holy fucking fuck!

Oh my god, no.

It happened. Everyone always used to joke that he'd die before Berserk was finished, and it actually fucking happened.

I literally just picked up the giant hardcover editions, too. Jesus.

At the pace he was going, whether it happened now or thirty years from now, odds are he would have never finished it anyways. One can only hope he left extensive notes for the rest of the story.
