Artwork Art Of Gold(TheGoldenBoy2188’s Not-AI Art Thread)

So I’m making another art thread. Why? Because I have some art I want to share, and because my other art thread is for art drawn by AI. This is art drawn by me, just so no one gets confused.

So I talked about making a 3D model of a spaceship. Here’s what i did yesterday.

The entire model except for the statue of zeus I created. I got the statue of Zeus of the internet. Don’t worry I asked my teacher if I could use it and he said yes.

The textures though don’t belong to me, I just got them of the internet.

Hmm, Imma be a bit brutally harsh here. Up your polys and increase how finely you're separating your meshes. The design and concept are good, but it's readily apparent the statue has about ten times as many polys per square inch as the tubular structure on the opposite end, which is really, really jagged from being reduced too much. Assuming you built it from a tube and bent it, it needs at least five, perhaps ten times as many subdivisions to keep it from looking too obviously made of just a few triangles compared with what I take to be something like the figurehead of a ship. It's like you've got something from a 1990 computer game combined with something from a modern-day one. This should be an easy fix, just increase how finely you're having your renderer split up the tube into polygons.

Again, I like the design and idea, it's just that there're obviously two different mesh divisions that aren't cooperating.

Actually, I built it from a cube. Turned it into a rectangle and extruded the sides and bent them.

And sure I'll up the poly count. Unfortunately, I'm afraid of what it would do to the model, you can't see it, but there are places where the mesh isn't connected or there are weird edges or vertices that don't attach to anything and go nowhere.

Because I'm super shit at modeling.

So I upped the poly count with divisions, but it didn’t make the model less jagged or change it, just added more divisions to the mesh.
Yeah, if you started with a cube it wouldn't do so because it started out an angular shape in the first place. What you'll want to do is start with a cylinder or pipe object, then apply a bend deformer. Animation Menu>Create Deformers>NonLinear>Bend

Adjust your settings to get the bends you need and it won't be jagged because you started with a round shape. Once you have your bends (Or before depending on how you operate, it will work either way but differently) apply a lattice deformer to it. This will basically put a cage around your cylinder and when you alter the cage, it smoothly stretches the cylinder to match, so you can make the middle of the lattice larger or the front oval, and that will create the swelled thicker section of the construct instead of it being cylindrical.

Hm, I can just put stuff in Smooth mode since that smooths everything out, but due to my modeling holes will appear in the ship, I’ve tried to use target welding to fix them but never really worked. So I just kept it on normal.

Also, today’s ship model progress.

Since the model itself is done I really only textured things.

Here’s the engine on the back.

Didn’t really know what to do here, so I just made the inside darker and added a metal texture. I don’t really like it though so I’m probably going to change it.

Since the texturing on the outside of the model is done I’ve decided to work on the inside of the ship, though I didn’t really need to due to how opaque the glass is.

I found this cool texture that I put on the deck, so it isn’t that sad gray.

Though I had to get some help from my teacher, cause due to how bad I’m at modeling, I somehow managed to turn the rectangle’s faces into triangles.

Here’s the other direction.

That white structure at the end is supposed to be the command center.

Here’s a zoom in.

I added a porcelain texture in hopes it would somewhat cancel out the white and make it not so bright, but it’s still bright enough that once you zoom in you can’t really see or differentiate what’s inside. Gonna have to fix that.

And here’s some stuff you’ll never get to see again.

This is what’s below the deck. I thought of adding rooms here but I’m deciding against it, I’ve already been working on this project for weeks and most of my classmates are already done with there’s plus nobody’s gonna see this so why waste time?

Here is what is beneath that by the way.

Nothing’s gonna be here, so it’s just gonna be empty space.

I’m almost done though, I’ll have to fix the textures a bit and add some stuff to the command center (like a stirring wheel and control panels) and then I can start working on an animation.

Though having said that I’m thinking of adding some grimlies anyway. Like gold wires on the big engine. Also feel like the deck is to empty, I’ll probably add a hatch door texture on it. And try to fill it up, like some barrel’s, chests, maybe tables and chairs?

Anyway that’s my progress with the model today, will update tomorrow.

So for something different from the spaceship.

Here's the wire model of a dragon.

Something I'm doing in my school's sculpture club.

I'm done with the wire model, now all I have to do is cover it with cardboard and newspaper before putting plaster sheets and clay.

Here's previous images of my progress.

I was going to start putting magazine on the model today but somehow after I was done making the wings the teacher said that club was over.

Will have to wait for next thursday.

Small update on Argo 2.

@Bear Ribs I followed your advice and put the hull in smooth mode. The hull shouldn’t be so jagged now.

I put the hull in Smooth Mode so it would look better. I’ve been working on the command center, as well, though I’m having trouble with textures.

Argo 2 update.

This is stuff I did last week. I put all the busts on the ship.

However the Hephaestus bust would fit on the side, so I put him on the top of the engine.

And gave him some depth.

Images of all the busts on the ship.

And then I decided to put some stuff on the deck of the ship. since it was too empty for me.

And that's what I did last week.

Now I'm gonna texture it.

Also, zoom in on the Zeus statue just because.

I decided to draw something 2d. Didn't really have a plan, I tried to shade it in but his shirt looks like it's covered in piss.

Rigging a 3D model I made.

Here's a video of me rigging the model I made, if you don't want to watch through the entire 12 minutes you can go to this timestamp.

9:41

Unfortunately, my first attempt at rigging didn't really go so well. Body parts not following the bones but bending weirdly.

If any of you have a student account or can fake one you get any of these products for free for 1/2 a year and you can renew it as long as you're a student.

If you don't then use Blender.
