Are these "taboo" civics good? (no doomer posting, "please")

  • This is for a cleanup of the Civilization IV future mod by "thollish".
  • Red squares represent civics that you can't have with a specific state religion.
  • Explanation of how I'm defining certain religions:
    • New Age is the syncretic enshrinement of liberalism. Considering having them taboofy all civics that go against liberalism.
    • Communism (my own addition to the bloated roster of beliefs) is a naturalist eschatology centered around a transition to a more egalitarian society.
    • Transhumanism is a conviction that radical transformation of the human body to better survive the real world is a moral imperative.
    • Nihilism is obviously referring to moral nihilism, but considering renaming to, I don't know, Egoism? National Egoism? Natego? It's got suicide bombers which sounds pretty spooky.
    • Virtualism is the insistence that cybernetic dreamworlds are the most hedonically ideal.
    • I have no idea what to do with Swarmism, the "hive mind" religion. I think the most interesting direction would be that it's a reactionary movement to Virtualism, built on fear that Virtualists are cutting themselves off from humanity through their escapism and therefore wastefully going against the entire purpose of the noosphere. The ultimate internet libertarians, out to completely actualize its purpose as a free communication system.
  • Explanation of futuristic civics (quoted text is direct flavor)
    • Divination: "A society with access to a Quantum Computer can directly access information from outside the universe. Many believe this information to be divine, and thus believe all dispute about supernatural matters to be ended. When you can directly query the ultimate, why bother with intermediaries or faiths?" Where does the "quantum computers are interdimensional coms" meme come from? I'll keep the "peering into multiverse" idea but take out this pretentiousness.
    • Fanaticism: "Modern fanaticism is when an entire society gears itself toward the promotion of one particular religion. Everything in such societies is cast in the light of the religion. A certain amount of brainwashing results, since there is almost a total information blackout. Nothing is secular or neutral, all thought and speech is imbued with significance either for or against the single faith. This much intrusion requires a lot of information sifting."
    • Mind Perfection: "Under a mind perfection regime, the state wields the power to directly reform the mind of any citizen using brain jamming technology."
    • Hive: "Hive societies attempt to assimilate all members into a single consciousness. These unifications can vary, from a mere congress with which all members are simply in contact to a total immersion in which each individual is no more than an appendage."
    • Immortalism: "An Immortalist society accepts the right of all to seek eternal life in this world. All other civics assert that death is good for society and souls, and immortality should be restricted to the elite, if not prohibited entirely. While there are benefits to having most people live indefinitely, such as increased population and skill levels, there are also drawbacks. People are less brave, and job turnover is reduced."
    • Utopianism: "Utopianism is an economic formula in which everybody wins. There is no inflation, no unemployment, and standards of living keep rising. Using this magic recipe, the effects of wild growth are indefinitely sustainable and the bubble never pops. You just have to believe."
  • The list is indeed incomplete. Mostly because unlisted civics (and like four listed ones) are useless to an advanced civilization.
  • I want every religion to be against at least one civic of every type, and every civic to be against at least one religion.
