Are AR-15/ AR-10 owners becoming a cult?

I am asking this question after some recent conversations I have had and seen in Youtube comment sections. When someone mentions they got another kind of Gun for Home Defense or some other reason. You get a ton of AR owners seemingly Butthurt that they would dare chose another weapon over an AR platform. I made me say Really??? Has love of the AR platform gone into a crazy cult mentality with some in the Gun Community? Well to be fair I have seen the same thing with Glock Fanboys/girls. Have you also noticed this trend as of late. How do we give these people a reality check about not being so obsessed with a weapons platform?

I've found Glock haters to be much more common.

I'm of the cult of 1911 myself...which I'm told is like worshipping at the altar of a Ford Pinto zaru.png

I make up for it with my attendance at the church of Holland and Holland I guess?

I think it has a lot to do with the media hysteria, which basically hypes a glorified rat catchers gun..a Varmint shooter up as this end all be all doom gun.

If you're a soccer mom and only worried about home defense, you're probably better off getting some kind of shotgun. But because Media made it into a boogey man..its become associated with 2A defense.

It's basically a way for soccer moms and grillbros to IRL shitpost at "the man"...Is the best way to put it. It's become a symbol of passive aggressive resistance to idiocy.

I can sympathize with it..but man....Are they ratty guns.

I'm looking for a good handgun myself. Got any suggestions?

SnW 41? The 610 isn't too bad either if you're a revolver man. If you want a soccer dad pistol go with a Glock, reliable, not finicky etc. 1911 Colts or a Colt commander if you wanna go attend the church of the "pinto" as people who meme on Coltists say.

Also if you wanna go bargain bin cheap, I saw a Ruger Wrangler for 90 bucks the other day.

Find out what fits your hand, the mag release is easy to use, and is pretty close to your natural point of aim.

.....some will say it does not make any difference, I disagree.
You can overcome the difference with training and practice.
Just easier to shot a hand gun that fits your hand.

Yes I am annoyed at the Army foisting the M9 off on me, that thing never fit my hand, the safety was “backwards” for my muscle memory, and while I learned to shoot it, better than some( JAG lawyers are the scariest people to be on a range with), it always required me to think about it.

Not sure of gun stocks currently in shops, but go and put hands on them. Find what fits or think fits and if possible rent your short list and shoot them.

note :some people are more susceptible to this than others.

Wife is hell on wheels with a 1911 for someone who does not shoot often, giver her a half dozen other pistols and she is okay, a few other she has shot and just can not get hits on target.

Best advice I can give, safety is muscle memory, train safe be safe.
Slow is smooth, smooth becomes fast, when your adrenal dumps because oh shit shit shit.... Heart rate hits 180 BPM....going to do what muscle memory tells your body to do.

Shoot often, dry fire when you can not shoot.

I can understand the love for the AR platform, being a soldier who is issued an M4.
They are damn reliable and good guns.

I personally favor older weapons. World War 1 and 2. I want to get me some MAS weapons personally. Fan of the french design, but an M1 garand and the M1 carbine, and other American weapons.

I think the AR is the "Assault weapom" ideal and so that is why it became popular.

I'm sure there are AR fans who are overly zealous, but that's less of a concern to me than are the people who say they need a gun to protect themselves from the government's overreach and don't own a rifle compatible with the parts and ammunition that we'll be relying on for that if ever the need arises.

That is a very good point. Buying something with common ammo is better then something with rare ammo

The most common ammo in my area is 12 Gauge 00 Buckshot and Birdshot. You can find both at almost any local gas station. Not so much 223 or 556. The later you must go to a place that sells guns.

As others mentioned, it is an artifact of being common, cheap, effective, and with insane customization options and variants in case its not effective enough. That said there certainly are alternatives that are at least as effective, but most of them not as common or cheap.

Some variations of that probably are in the "comparable if not better" category.
Not a random pump action for hunting, but something like a Saiga-12 with a large mag definitely is one.
