Andromeda - A Star Wars/Stargate Crossover

1 - Dr. Jonah Collins (1)
  • Author's Note: There are some caveats to this story
    1. Star Wars exists in this version of Earth.
    2. I'm keeping as close as OTL as possible within the continuity of Stargate up until 2016.
    3. The storytelling style here is similar to Max Brooks' World War Z, so expect tons of telling.

    Theed, Naboo.
    {The capital of the pacifist world of Naboo is a beautiful city, the reconstruction of the planet following the Chommell Campaigns of 2028 made a point of keeping the pre-war architectural style of the planet. In recent years, the planet has become a popular tourist destination, as well as the retirement home of many a member of the original Buyan Expedition, among them, Doctor Jonah Collins.}

    "The name comes from Slavic folklore, it was a Russian data analyst, one Sviatoslav Zakhaev who discovered the place in the Ancient databases we had so he got naming privileges, or at least informal naming. And it took us a few more years before finding the address. There was also a very tempting prize to be had. After all, the group of Ancients that moved to Andromeda had branched into Psionics research. And, with the situation in Pegasus worsening in the early 2010s, some in Homeworld Command were interested in any sort of solution that could give us an advantage. The idea that the psionics research held at Buyan could help us crack the telepathic abilities of the Wraith was probably what led the higher-ups to approve the expedition."

    He takes a sip of his coffee, then continues.

    "Ah, I still buy my coffee from Earth. The local caf is not bad, but it lacks something... Anyway, the first thirty-six hours of the expedition were basically the standard procedure for getting settled into City-Ships. You know, check for traps, ensure that there is a power supply, keep everyone away from the more dangerous technologies, getting preliminary reports on the local databases, do some scans of the planet the ship is on, that kind of stuff. We then started assigning living quarters and retrieving the gate addresses of the Andromeda network... Around that time is when we had our first clue of where the hell were we."

    "And what was that clue?" I ask him, he lets out a small chuckle and sighs.

    "Well, soon after arriving, we noticed that it was a desert planet -with some population, but the sensors were still not fully operational- and that it orbited a binary system, so I think it was Marcus, I mean, Lieutenant Marcus Wright, who nicknamed the place Tatooine... Around forty-eight hours after arrival, we detected this ludicrously big... thing... moving towards Buyan. It was, according to our still not fully operational sensors, a massive lifeform. A hundred meters in length at least. Commander Evans ordered a team dispatched in a cloaked jumper to observe and, if necessary, create a diversion. What they found was a massive ten-legged reptile of some sort. Thankfully, it soon became busy in unearthing a similarly massive... thing... A couple of months later, when we finally made contact, we learned that those were a Giant Krayt Dragon and a Sarlacc. I am sure you know that I have said so multiple times, and I'll say it again, but the look in Lieutenant Wright's face when we found out that we were not even in a Tatooine look-alike but in the actual thing... Well, let's just say that whenever we were rotated back home, no one from the expedition even bothered watching the sequel films, not when we were back from the real deal."

    "And what was the reaction of Homeworld Command?"

    He looks at me with an amused look and shrugs. "Well, in public, or as publically as they could react given that the Gate was still a classified matter back in sixteen, they did not say much other than asking for confirmation... That being said, I remember that in the first briefing, the face that General O'Neil made is something that I hope someone in the room took a picture of. Then the mission became to figure out at what point in time we were and what was going on around us. Most details about that have been declassified and are pretty much general knowledge, however, one thing that very few people know is that Command and the IOA were very much scared that we would run into the Death Star or something similar. I mean, they've made a whole ton of superweapons and other nasty crap out here, and some were even capable of fitting through a gate. Plus, the IOA at the time was falling apart. The Russians were being quite the troublemakers back then and international cooperation almost broke entirely with the whole drama about Crimea... Probably those were the reasons why the US decided to go public with the Gate.

    Of course, we were busy at that point, trying to come to some sort of agreement with the sand people that inhabited the mountain range north of Buyan, and trying to do a passive observation rather than actually sending out teams. Unlike at Pegasus, when the novelty and shock wore off, our stay there became boring pretty quickly, I mean, we were not quite allowed to do gate-exploring for a couple of months while we figured how to hook into the Holonet -or actually discovering its existence.- Of course, people always say that the easiest course of action would have been to fly over to the nearest spaceport in a cloaked jumper and observe before trying to make contact, but I have to admit that I'm glad we did not. It's definitely for the best that the first official contact of Earth in Andromeda was with representatives of the Galactic Republic, a couple of months later, instead of with Jabba the Hutt."

    2 - Ambassador Silara Teral
  • Chulak, Chulak

    {The capital world of the Free Jaffa Nation has become the second economic center of the Milky Way. An orbital shipyard was recently inaugurated and it hosts main relays for both the Interstellar Network Project -based off of Tau'ri Internet expanded on a subspace scale- and the Intergalactic Compatibility project -the latest attempt to connect the previously mentioned Tau'ri internet and the Andromeda Holonet- It is here of course, that the Republic Ambassador in the Free Nation resides. Silara Teral, native to Alderaan, was also part of the committee that made official contact on October 21, 2016.}

    "I'll admit that traveling to Tatooine, especially back in those days, was not at all an appealing prospect, however, I had little choice. I was part of a Senate commission that was formed to handle the official ceremonies and negotiation following the first exchange of messages between the Buyan Expedition and a small Republic outpost in the Outer Rim... The head of the delegation, Senator Hirken of Alsakan believed that this would be a simple mission of contacting your people, getting access to your homeworld which would surely lay along some forgotten hyperspace route of the Outer Rim and integrate it into the Republic... Force was he wrong. Thankfully he never said so to the commanders of your expedition. And when he realized just what we had in our hands, well, it's no secret that Alsakanians tend to admire your people, feeling some sort of cultural kinship even. Now, the negotiations themselves, all the documents and even the footage, has been declassified by your UN Council on Interstellar Affairs, so I suppose that you did not come here just for that... I suppose that telling you what the Senate was about in those days would be worth it though.

    I was a young starry-eyed aide for Senator Thuren Alde, the man who preceded Senator Organa as Alderaan's representative in the Senate. And since he was incapacitated but had insisted so fiercely on having Alderaanian representation at Contact, I was sent in his stead. The trip was... uneventful, And thankfully we did not have to touch down in any of the main spaceports of Tatooine. However, when we got back to Coruscant... Well, I am sure that your people knows enough of the Senate to know what was going on.

    The Senate was trying to pull things together. By then we already had quite a lot of discontent worlds who only needed someone to rally around to make secession a popular idea, and of course, there go several senators from the Core claiming that your people were just some uncivilized brutes with access to some sort of pre-republic technology. Of course, some of the people who defended an agreement with the Tau'ri[1] were quite unsavory, I remember Captain Tarkin being brought to the Senate to testify, even though he had only second-hand reports about the matter."

    "But surely," I tell her, "It could not have been that bad"

    "Oh, you don't know a thing. By that point, we should have guessed what would happen with the Trade Federation in the following years, but at the time, no one found anything suspicious about them pushing for the Republic to ban any trade with you, even though we had not even started to trade at all! Of course, there were some things that neither Senator Hirken nor myself reported to the Senate, such as the knowledge that the Gate was still a secret in your world, but I doubt that would have changed much.

    Soon enough, the Senator from Naboo was the one to take the initiative, pushing for closer diplomatic relations, even going against the opinion of the Trade Federation... You can say whatever you want about Palpatine, that he abused the powers of his office, that he was responsible for the War, but you ought to admit, the bastard," And there is hate in her eyes when mentioning the former Chancellor and Senator from Naboo, "was a charismatic man.

    It took a year for the Senate to finally accept that the Tau'ri were not only extragalactic but also were, for all intents and purposes, our equals. That only was when both Jabba and Gardulla the Elder made their move and then failed."

    [1] Most of the Andromeda Galaxy would adopt the term "Tau'ri" from the Jaffa to refer to Earth and its people.

    3 - Col. Stanley Johnson (1)
  • Columbia, South Carolina

    {In many ways, Earth has not changed greatly since the Stargate was made public in 2018. People still drive cars on the streets -albeit electric ones, making use of the power provided by Naquadah and Fusion reactors- and travel in airplanes -albeit hypersonic suborbital ones for long-distance flights- still use devices that could be recognized as smartphones, personal computers, or similar appliances, and still go out for Coffee. In a small local Cafe, I am met by Colonel Stanley Johnson. At the time of Contact, he was a Second Lieutenant in the US Army and assigned to the security of the Cheyenne Mountain Complex, more precisely, the SGC. He was also present in Tatooine during the 24-hour Buyan Conflict}

    "Everyone was riled up when we heard the news. Suddenly we discovered that all those Jedi and Sith and such were running around in Andromeda... I think the most shocking moment was when General O'Neill showed up in Cheyenne, with George freaking Lucas in tow. And God, the look in the man's face, Mr. Lucas was absolutely confused. I remember because I was guarding the meeting room where General O'Neill sat down with him. Now, let me tell you, for a moment we all thought that Mr. Lucas was some sort of semi-ascended being or something like that. It turned out, we were wrong, he had absolutely no idea about what was going on in Andromeda. I still remember him saying, ¨I wrote it as happening in a Galaxy Far Far Away, not in Andromeda! I had absolutely no idea that it was true!¨ And, well, I cannot say more of what was said there, but the working theory after that meeting, was that Mr. Lucas -and God knows how many other writers after him, because a ton of the Expanded Universe stuff ended up being just as real- must have had that knowledge implanted in them by some ascended or another... The spooky thing is, we have absolutely no idea about why."

    He takes a bite of his cherry pie, hums in delight and then continues.

    "A month after that, I got reassigned, apparently there were tensions mounting, the two main Hutts of Tatooine wanted us out, and to keep Buyan, so it was decided that they needed reinforcements, and since I was already involved with SGC, I was one of them. However, we did not arrive through the Gate. SGC wanted to make a statement. They wanted to make a show of force, hoping to get the Hutts to back down before things blew up. So we took the Odyssey and the George Hammond, packed them with as many US Army grunts as we could fit in them, as well as some IFVs, and headed to Andromeda. The ugly assholes were surprised, but at the time we could not afford to keep both ships there, so, once we were all unloaded, supplied and settled, the Odyssey returned home while the Hammond remained. We even sent envoys to Gardulla the Elder. The fat bastard decided to ¨honor¨ us with a gift of slaves as a peace offering... God, when we learned the names of two of them, most of the base went silent. However, we put that on hold when one of the Bounty-Hunters that Colonel Jackson had hired to keep an eye on things[1] told us that the Hutts were preparing a move and that they had some external support but not too significant.

    Well, we bunkered down, put the Hammond on high alert, and sure enough, they hired a couple of Bounty-Hunters to put a Nuke in Buyan. That was a very shoddy attempt if I may say so, we caught the poor assholes in their freighter, they didn't even have the time to react when they were being flanked by two Jumpers and a 302. They tried to open fire with their lasers and the 302 made short work of their light freighter. With that done, we assembled some teams, dropped into their palaces at night, and let me tell you, their guards are there mostly to look intimidating and deter their slaves from doing anything. They rely almost entirely on Bounty Hunters to deal with threats, and that usually is long before there's any chance for a threat to drop-by. They were not expecting us.

    Gardulla the Elder came alive, although we had to ask the guys in the Hammond to beam him over to a brig in Buyan directly, the fat bastard did not fit in a Jumper, much less with all of us. Jabba? I don't know, I was with the guys taking Gardulla when we heard that the other team had resorted to kill Jabba and then drop some C4 on his Rancor Pit, just in case. The following morning we did some clean-up operations on the area, and then we realized that we were now the only ones with any measure of control over the place."

    He takes another bite, savoring it before continuing.

    "Ah, you must be curious, among the slaves that Gardulla the Elder gave as a peace offering, were none other than the Skywalkers... Well, a net gain for the universe, you know, not having the kid sulk around and turn into a Sith, but God was he a handful." He adds with a fond smile. "I remember how Colonel Thompson chewed out Pvt. Halsey when he decided that showing the Star Wars movies to Ms. Skywalker was a good idea."

    Note: Yep, I just butterflied away the entire saga. When I said that I chose the timing for maximum timeline-altering shenanigans, I was being serious
    [1] SGC Approved shipments of Chocolate -an exceedingly rare trade good in Andromeda, if not as rare as it would be in canon after the Yuuzhan Vong Invasion- to pay for the hiring of Bounty Hunters to be used to gather information on the underworld of Andromeda

    4 - Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi (1)
  • Jedi Temple, Coruscant

    {The Northern Entrance of the Jedi Temple is imposing, yet there is a serenity to the design. Near the columns that line the promenade into the Temple, I am met by Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn. A Compassionate man with a somewhat disheveled appearance and a kind smile, he has become the public face of the Jedi Order, especially in the Milky Way, as well as an outspoken proponent of reform within its ranks. We are also joined by his former apprentice, Master Kenobi. It is worth noting that both of them were very interested in meeting the actors that portrayed them in the Star Wars films, although what was said between them once they did meet, remains a secret to this day.}

    "We had just returned from Alaris Prime when the Council decided to send us to keep an eye on the happenings in Tatooine." Master Jinn tells us as we walk to an airspeeder. "Master Yoda told us that we were the best-suited Jedi for this mission, and also informed the commander of the expedition of our arrival. I must admit that it was quite overwhelming. The former slaves who had moved into Buyan alongside the Tau'ri were of course in awe at the sight of Jedi, but the Tau'ri themselves? Well, that was when we started to suspect that there was something else at play."

    With that we go into the vehicle. Master Kenobi will be driving us to a diner, the owner of which is apparently a friend to both.

    "The force flowed strangely in Buyan," Adds Kenobi. For all the different paths he has walked when compared to his fictional counterpart, he is still very much The Negotiator. "There was a strong beacon in the Force, which we discovered to be a kid, but our attention was soon taken by one Private Alexander Halsey. On our second day, he and one of the officers asked us to meet with them in one of the rooms adjacent to the Gate, they had this projector set up, as well as refreshments. I can remember seeing them nervous, as if they were afraid of what they were going to show us."

    Master Kenobi is speaking about the Prequel Trilogy of course.

    "All made sense at that point. Shmi Skywalker had been actively avoiding us for the first day of our stay and remained quite distant from us, and we knew that Anakin was this strong beacon in the force, but once we saw the films it made sense. Of course, more worrying was the revelation that Senator Palpatine was a Sith Lord, so I asked Colonel Jackson to allow us to take copies of the films to the Temple." He chuckles slightly and keeps driving -or flying- towards the restaurant.

    "Colonel Jackson," adds Master Jinn, "informed us that he had sent the files with a courier to the Temple a week earlier, with the files in their power, and once the Council had watched them, The Order was ready to act, but we needed more evidence to move against him... Evidence that we did not have until it was too late, Sure, the Council could have tried a more... direct... approach, but it would have likely led to the Republic Senate turning against the Order. Uncanny as the resemblance was, we still did not know what to make of the films. So we did the next best thing, and started working with the Tau'ri to improve the situation in Tatooine."

    We soon arrive to Dex's Diner. The place is also a fairly popular location for Tau'ri tourists in Coruscant, a situation that the owner finds most amusing. We are greeted warmly and seated in the usual spot where the two Jedi are frequently seated.

    5 - Anakin Skywalker (1)
  • Coronet City, Corellia

    {The Capital of both the planet and system of Corellia is a bustling metropolis. Home to some of the finest engineering firms in Andromeda, as well as to a splinter group of Jedi. The locals have a reputation as fiercely free-thinking mavericks, which is perhaps why -along with the massive engineering sector- Anakin Skywalker, the Hero of the Outer Rim, settled so well here. We meet in the spaceport, and he greets me as he comes out of his personal starfighter.}

    "I did not watch the films until I was 16" He admits with a laugh. "My mother was very opposed to having me train as a Jedi, And she nearly had a heart attack when she realized that I was already getting Qui-Gon to give me some basic training. But most of the time in Buyan I was actually with Dr, Collins and his team... I mean, physics has never been my strong suit but the engineers in the expedition did not seem to mind me too much."

    We walked over from the port and towards the Jedi Enclave.

    "I stayed for two years in Buyan, as did Master Jinn and Obi-Wan, but when they were recalled to help deal with the Naboo Crisis, and the liaison of the Jedi Order became Master Dooku... Well, mom asked the Expedition if she could leave. At that time the Tau'ri were starting to set up embassies in various worlds, and their first ambassador in Corellia was the one who brought up the idea. I can't say that mom liked it, but it was like a dream come true." He speaks with a fond smile. "I mean, I was going to become a Jedi, granted, I would not go to the Coruscant temple, but I would get to keep mom close, and I could potentially develop a close relationship with the engineering firms here at Corellia. It took a bit of convincing, you see, mom wanted to move to Alderaan, but in the end, we convinced her."

    "We?" I ask, he lets out a laugh and nods.

    "Before leaving, Master Jinn helped me convince her. So we actually left a week before Master Dooku's arrival. At the time the Jedi Enclave was rather... skeptic of letting non-Corellians join in. However, I know that the Diktat vouched for me... I have to admit, I was somewhat scared when I learned of it. But other than that, my early years were rather uneventful. I was made an apprentice for Master Jacus Halcyon. That's where the Galactic Civil War caught me[1]"

    By the time we reach the Jedi Enclave on his airspeeder, it's almost sunset. Skywalker is definitely a maverick, and I have to admit that I was holding a bit too tightly to the handles on the Airspeeder. It was definitely a fast ride.

    "Life in Corellia was fairly quiet, maybe a bit too much for my liking." He admits once we're within the grounds of the Enclave. "I had always dreamed of exploring the galaxy, and now here I was, almost grounded in the Corellian system. Thankfully, Master Halcyon offered to aid the Coruscant council with the Naboo Crisis."

    [1] Suffice to say, that the Clone Wars are not known as such, due to a distinct lack of Clones, or at least their lack of prominence compared to the canon Clone Wars.

    6 - Albert McCallister (1)
  • Miami, Florida

    {Albert McCallister, former Vice-President of the United States, retired from politics shortly after the 2020 Election. Being the Vice-President for John Matthews in 2018, he was present during the announcement of the Stargate Program. He was also in office when the situation in the Andromeda Galaxy was leaked to the public. Currently, he resides in Miami and spends most of his time on the beaches. We meet in a beachside restaurant that he is a regular customer of."

    "The original report to the White House stated that we were at a point in time when we could still prevent the events of the saga. So the main priority of Homeworld Command was to figure out if the events were playing out closer to the newer continuity, or to the legends one. We also decided to allow Disney to keep working on their sequel trilogy[1] for the time being, given that there was no way that the following movie could endanger our operation in Andromeda.

    Once we figured that we were working on the base of the legends continuity, our main priorities shifted. We needed to avert the matter with the Yuuzhan Vong, and we decided to secure the services of some specific individuals, or to ensure that they would not be a threat."

    "You mean," I ask him, "Jango Fett."

    The former VP nods slightly before continuing. "Yes, Mr. Fett was at the top of the list of individuals of interest, alongside one Dooku, Palpatine, Hego Damask, several senators, various members of the Jedi Order, and it was a great relief to us that the Skywalkers were already secured in Buyan. However, since we had no way to act against either Palpatine or Damask at that point, we focused on ensuring that our position in Tatooine would be secure, as well as keeping any possible threat coming from Andromeda contained there."

    "Which is why President Matthews decided to go public."

    "Exactly, this allowed us to allocate more resources to Planetary Security, even if it resulted in a short-term loss of apparent control over the situation. The fact that the five permanent members of the Security Council were already collaborating with us certainly made it easier. Of course there were inconvenients, such as the attempts of Kim Jong-Un to blackmail the world into giving him a Daedalus-class Battleship, or the Treaty of Seoul[2]. But by late '19 things were working fine, and President Matthews was confident of getting a re-election."

    I look at him for a moment and ask him. "And then the leaked reports came out."

    Again he nods. "The timing could not have been worse, For all that we had already managed to alter the way events would unfold in Andromeda, the Invasion of Naboo by the Trade Federation was beginning to get on track. This time however, we were aware that they were also planning on blockading Tatooine, and with it, our base. The Odyssey and the Apollo[3] were dispatched, and the Sun-Tzu[4], Piotr Velikiy[5], and Clemenceau[6] remained in Homeworld defense duty. We dispatched further reinforcements to Andromeda and prepared for a fight. When the Trade Federation attempted to prevent our ships from jumping into the system, they just jumped past them. We had just received the reports that we had defeated their blockade force with no casualties, President Matthews gave the order to prepare to aid Naboo, and then someone in CNN came out with the report.

    God, the press was ballistic, although they claimed that the leak was an attempt to fool everyone. It took them a week or so before actually spinning it as what was actually going on. By then, we had offered Queen Amidala our aid in breaking the blockade. We also learned that the same two Jedi were sent to figure out the situation, and that the Corellians were sending someone as well. Apparently their newly elected Diktat wanted to take a more active role in Andromeda politics.

    Now, one would think that, knowing what was going on, we would be greeted with support, I mean, we were offering aid to who were basically the good guys in a film! But no, some Democrats in congress, as well as some of the more radical Republicans[7] claimed that such an action was an unwarranted military intervention! Unwarranted my ass, the Trade Federation started with an act of war, we were responding to their actions. Of course, thankfully cooler heads prevailed, but that was quite chaotic.

    "By the time things had calmed down, Palpatine was elected Chancellor, the Republic had been made to look like a bunch of incompetent buffoons, and we had successfully killed Darth Maul on orbit around Tatooine[8], as well as aided Naboo by smashing through the blockade ships while the Jedi secured the Viceroy of the Trade Federation. So at least it was resolved... favorably. However, that was not enough to get John to run again in 2020, and when someone brought up the idea to me, I declined. I definitely don't envy the man in the Oval Office, and I'd rather let some other poor sucker take the job."

    [1] This actually hurt to write.
    [2] Signed in February of 2019, the PRC allowed Japan, South Korea, and the ROC to have spaceships, so long as the tonnage of their combined space forces remained under half of that of the PLA's spaceships.
