How are you supposed to 'make friends' with neighbors by walking to their porches, knocking on their doors, with no reason to be there ('I was dying of lockdown conditions before the lockdown even started' is not a reason), and asking for an invitation anyway? No, nothing has happened yet, and I need it to stay that way, but I don't know how to ask for consent to enter someone else's house without facing of any the rational recourse from pepper spray all the way to a shotgun shell. There won't be any reason to be there because I could have no possible thing to do with them once I step into their houses. I have no interests once I account for the fact that none of mine are real interests, and I am too stingy to have any pop-cultural ground with others. I am too ignorant to be a real partner in any conversation about the other person's interests, so their own niches are out of the question. I would have to be familiar with them first to ethically ask about their personal lives, because it's otherwise a stalkerish query, I don't know why every single teacher has delusions that it isn't massively creepy behavior. It looks like the first step of being in good standing with your neighbors is having pre-existing common ground with them.
