It wouldn't surprise me in the least if true, to be honest. He's rich, eccentric, and finds amusement in doing the oddest things (apparently he thought his portrayal in the Simpsons was amazing?).

A lot of people are saying that he didn't join the Board because he plans to buy more shares, and if you're on the Board? You're capped at 12.5%. Musk might just do it purely for the lulz. He's... eccentric, to say the least.
