The empire has 25,000 ISDs, I'm sure they can spare a few thousand to keep the rebels busy while the rest are blowing up the Vong.

Ok, but in the actual EU my understanding is that didn't happen. That was my issue with the superweapons thing, where you bring in EU stuff for one point, but then step beyond the EU and make claims that don't bear out. If Imperial gear was often badly made or poorly designed, that should have...

I think there are a few shakey points there. For example, you cite the fanous EU conversation about Imperial over use of superweapons, but then also speculate that by the time the invasion stated, underlying design flaws in the star destroy design would come to light and the Vong would have the...

I don't think the intent was for Holdo to have always been seen as in the right and Rian just totally botched it. TLJ was in general very good at getting characters to convey the message they were supposed to. It's just that those messages were often insane or stupid.

Even in legends, the Tantive's excuse was paper thin, the Han Solo Trilogy had the Tantive beaming up transmissions practically right in front of Vader's ship. Rogue One doesn't change much on that front.

If you want to nitpick rogue one, the correct issue is that despite the empire having the plans for the death star since episode 2, and construction in progress as of 3, they somehow worked on it for years before realizing it didn't have a working power source.

I'm super excited about once against being able to pick up a lightsaber and run around doing absolutely nothing of any real consequence or significance in the setting, that'll be great. More seriously, the RTS sounds neat, though I'm not sure why they're going with Firaxis vs, say, Petroglyph.

Presumably the plan would be to hyperdrive out of the area, and the slowly recover the fighters out of combat rather than trying to do so mid-fight. EC Henry, the guy that modelled the ship, has actually done this stuff professionally (he's worked on STO designing a number of ships there) so I...

Call it what you will, my point was basically that "small ship, big guns" was a part of the WW2 paradigm that SW draws on.

Ok, first off that's a different class of corvette than the one in the video, the one in the video is a larger model. Secondly, that cutaway shows that the mid section of the ship is mostly just diplomatic facilities and some hallways, there's no vital systems there you couldn't replace with a...

I at least get the objection with the laser, but why are the launch racks a problem? I'm not sure what your argument is here?

"Uber" is relative, they're really only capable of knocking out a similarly sized ship (slightly smaller ship in this case), which is impressive but hardly unprecedented in SW, it's the same principle we've seen in superlaser armed capital ships scaled down to a much smaller ship. It's hardly...

That's not really a good example though, because that's just countering mystical BS with other, equally mystical BS, that's just the the SW version of kryptonite. It doesn't show any sort of cleverness or ingenuity to do that. "I built this blaster that shoots in an X pattern, so the jedi can't...

SG1 is a setting where you can become a glowing white space ghost if you think about it hard enough, it is in no way grounded and especially not when compared to a setting that lets you become a glowing blue space ghost if you think about it hard enough and also are morally righteous enough...

You're still not getting it. Force users are constantly involved in conflicts in SW because it's star wars, and they're a popular part of the setting that the franchise owners want to visibly involved. You might as well argue that there's something about white body armor, vaguely nazi-esque...

Star Wars Star Wars Discussion Thread - LET THE PAST D-! Oh, wait, nevermind

I feel like you're intentionally missing the point here. Star Wars is going to have an immense of destruction and death regardless of who is responsible for it or how they do it, because it's Star Wars. Also, perhaps find a better source for your claim that the Force is some uniquely...

It's not really plausible to argue that in an unstable, conflict driven era, that getting rid of a well known and generally respected group of devoted peacekeepers would make the situation less prone to wars and conflict, rather than more. And it is particularly implausible to claim that if...

I don't know if it's good or bad, I don't like the Expanse. But it would not be star trek, much like star wars without the jedi is not star wars. That is not to say there always must be some weirdo with a robe and laser sword in every bit of SW media, but any media that doesn't have some robed...

Yes, but those people are still outliers, or not actually opposed to force users on the grounds you list. Mandos don't really care about the whole cycle of conflict that definitely exists and isn't just a fiction Keria invented. They have a grudge against the Jedi specifically because the Jedi...
