    I think they can track crypto better than they will admit, but they know the hackers are beyond thier reach, likely protected by a foreign power and do not want to admit it. Thus the bounty, so they can get white hats to publicly out what they already know, without leaking sources or methods.

    The military isn't a for-profit enterprise. The pipeline company is. So they cut corners on IT security, and now the whole easy coast is paying for it.

    Huh, so maybe the pipeline hack was just a massive ransomware attack and not all the people involved realized what they were a part of. Still, nice of the hackers to promise to do better with who they work for in the future.
