Not really, the clones were modified to have an accelerated metabolism, they could be grown ana trained fast, but they would not last long.

And IIRC Kamino bought it during the Clone Wars or they decided to rebel, so they got the wrath of the Empire fall upon them hard.

Between that, other attrition and the need for an expanded military it is likely that the clones were mostly phased out in the next few decades.

Well, between the end of the Clone Wars and New Hope, two decades passed
But IMO @Agent23 is correct - the clones should had popped their cogs from old age by the time of New Hope. Crudely grafted canon holes ...
Still, the point that normies would not like being around the clones holds - AFAIK they were never too amicable to begin with, but Order 66 killed any

Yes, IIRC commander Cody was already starting to gray out back during RotS.

The productive life of these clones is pretty short, a few conscripts or people who would love to dodge a long stont in the mines for a minor crime or accident like drunken speeder racing would be cheaper to train and maintain.

Also, there is a other reason why Palpu'd like to phase the clones out.
They were part of the Grand Army of the Republic.

IMHO they were all likely split up, and either given stormtrooper armor or sent on suicide missions and costly mop up operations and suppression of rebellions.

That would have saved on the costs to dispose of them ehen they started reaching their expiration dates.

Oh, and wasn't there a story of an emperor that ordered a legion to march to the ends of the earth?

I think that was part of the preface to Baen's Foreign Legions or Ranks of Bronze.

Now that I think about it, it might be fun to have a story reminiscent of one of those.

Palpy orders his last clones to go forth into the uncharted territories to spread the empire.

They end up in another universe and tangle with a fsr greater paper than him after they get fixed to age normally and otherwise upgraded.

I would not call it a crossover with RoB or Foreign Legions exactly, though.

Idea: R2-D2 can't help but shake off the feeling that Anakin isn't dead and something about everything that went down on Mustafar just didn't set well with him, So he decides to go out on his own and look for him. But to do so R2 decides he needs to upgrade himself. Overtime he does so and within a year he's converted himself into a full-fledged human replica droid in the perfect image of ironically enough Padme Amidala (complete with perfect voice replication) becoming a prominent Hero for Hire using the credits he/she makes to purchase new upgrades for themselves and find out information about the empire. 5 years after the rise of the empire R2 runs into Vader and realizes he's Anakin. R2 stuns him and takes him to Tatooine to get him out of that life support system...What happens from thier IDK yet.

On a scale of 1-10 how stupid is this idea? 1 being eh could work to 10 being "NEVER WRITE STAR WARS FANFICS AGAIN!!!"

3-4. solidly crack fic but could be fun depending on execution.

Would it be best to play into Parody or should I try to play it as straight as I can and see where it goes?

depends on how much R2 adopts Padme's mannerisms and personal discretion. Vader catches wind of that and it would press his buttons something fierce. either someone is pretending to be Padme and needs to die horribly or Padme survived in which case he is gonna be very... conflicted. hopeful to be sure but there is a lot there to unpack considering he choked her out last time. probably want to lean a bit into the crack side of things because of that. playing it too straight and serious probably just has Vader going for the kill. R2 is quite Impish and a troll though so show that personality. Also consider what you want C3P0 to be doing. If R2 Is upgrading is C3P0 going to be left behind? or go a different direction where R2 is trying to pass as Human C3P0 goes for being more of a warbot. more durable, less clunky, actual combat capabilities.

As for Tatooine? if you take him there How does he handle Luke and Ben. alternately if you skip out on Tatooine it could just be a fic of 2 droids broing it up searching for their old master finding out about him kidnapping him to fix him up and just be a trio going around for a while solving smallish problems until something big comes along and forces them to either deal with Sideous or they come in contact with Jedi Survivors or Luke or Leia or Ben or Yoda.

My main hesitancy would be Why would R2 choose to model her new form after Padme? not saying you can't but you would need a reason.
