I had a somewhat goofy thought on playing with the genre and shifting things around.
The Most Noble Man in the World
The war is over. Evil triumphed. The armies of bestial monsters roam the land, the surviving humanoids are either quislings or cattle. The leaders of the light killed or corrupted, their fortresses now serve evil, the world is despoiled, and the land carved up between thousands of warring dark lords and ladies all vying for power ensuring an eternity of bloodshed and suffering
Then a dark magician researching a new and even more horrifying spell discovers there's a pesky balance between good and evil principle to the universe that will doom them all. Oops. Unwilling to give up his collected shinies, but also not clear on what good is, he summons a typical Isekai protagonist to let some good into the world, so that it will still be available for storing shinies in later.
Now our hero has to find a way to bring good into a world that can't even remember what it is while dealing with comically inept, though enthusiastic, minions who are determined to do good, as soon as they can figure out what it is.
Probably be very black comedy humor, possibly darker than I'd like to write but the idea seemed good.
And reversing it:
The Most Evil Man in the World
Take the above and reverse it. It's a modern-dayish setting where Magical Girls have banished all evil, purifying the world of it and bringing about lasting peace. Which turns out to be not nearly as good as planned and puts the world at serious risk of alien invasion since the magical girls are getting soft with nothing to fight and the non-magical forces have destroyed all their weapons and declared universal peace and brotherhood.
To remedy this, their magical animal mascot summons the most evil thing imaginable, a high-school aged isekai protagonist, to be a new dark lord. Unfortunately said mascot passes out from the strain of the spell so he didn't get the 411 on this situation and wanders off, eventually realizing he's in another world, but since nothing's wrong and there's no apparent reason he'd need to fight anything, he forges some paperwork to go back to high school unaware he's the most evil person in the world, able to perform horrific acts like jaywalking, swearing, and forging paperwork to go back to high school.
