What are you playing currently?

Am I the only one who likes XCom: Enemy Unknown waaaaaaay better then its more popular (and honestly still very good sequel) XCOM2?

No, I like XCOM: Enemy Unknown better too. XCOM 2 is much definetly more streamlined (no more instant kill rockets on your side, less bullshit on the enemy side + concealment means you can plan your opening move), but I don't like the story and design direction as much especially after WOTC and CS. Plus it crashes a lot less.

Yeh, X-COM 2 kinda rushes you to finish the game, in X-COM 1 they just spam sectopods if you play too long.
Plus Genemods and Mech Troopers are bit more fun than Sparks and Faction Commando's because you can have a lot more than three.

There is that as well but I really did like the overall story and campaign in XCom just in general and wish people spammed egregious amounts of mods for it as well. The sequel had a stronger narrative but I felt it was a less interesting and ironically... lower quality plot. A united Earth fighting the aliens just worked for me on a far better level then plucky resistance fighting alien occupation after invalidating the accomplishments of the original. Just more relatable overall.

After reinstalling it, I was trying to play Left 4 Dead 2 with mods from Workshop. I changed , for the first time, the settings multiple times. This are my requirements. The laptop I am using is 6 years old.

I thought it was one of the graphics mods that changes the skin of some guns or the one of the characters (or both?) or the particle effects or the mods that affect those even though I don't remember having ANY problems with them in the past. I thought it was the AI enhancer and population variety mod BUT nope even with those disabled the games get slow at some POINTS.

It lags despite I have/should have all the recommended specs.

Right now nothing. The fans in my PC start to whine like a Jet engine and then the ruddy thing will shut down. No clue what is causing it. I blew it out yesterday and the thing almost crashed.

Destiny 2. I'm still trying to get Necrotic Grip damnit!

Stupid to put it on a rotating loot table 😤

Also playing Civ 6 on the weekends with friends

World of Wacraft

Came back last month and checked out the Shadowlands stuff I missed and Dragonflight. Bought two more months of game time with the WoW token. I've been doing rated battlegrounds, RPing, and working on some other grinds. New underground zone arrives next week in 10.1. The WoW dev team has just experienced several departures and it seems like 10.2 isn't going to come out for several months, so I don't intend to stick around the whole duration of 10.1.

Over the past week, the Moon Guard RP server has been hosting a cross-faction campaign against the Primalists. The Primalists in our RP felt far more threatening and imposing than they did in Blizzard's content. In our campaign, the Primalists are such a threat that the Horde and Alliance mobilize their armies and fleets to the Dragon Isles.

We encounter turbulent seas and spot storm clouds as we approach the Dragon Isles. We receive word that the Primalists have launched a preemptive strike on our fleet. Lighting strikes down gunships with hundreds of soldiers on board. The coalition's forces break up into multiple groups to respond to the many different crises occurring simultaneously.

Map showing the position of various forces as we landed on D2.

My character joins the D-day landing on the Waking Shores. We trudge inland through the mud under as a pitch black sky punctuated by lightning. We struggle to retain control over our frightened steeds. We stumble upon the dead bodies of our brothers. We become enshrouded in dense mists and can't see more than a few feet in front of us. An unnatural wind sucks the very air out of our throats. We are kneeling on the ground, gasping for breath. Frostbite is setting in on our extremities. A massive storm elemental that we can barely see through the wind and rain manifests before us. We are eviscerated by glass and sand and small rocks. The sheer hurricane force launches even heavy orcs and Tauren back, sending a trail through the mud. We turn around and run for our lives. Squadrons of gyrocopters are hurtling towards the earth and impact into the rocks all around us. A menacing voice booms like thunder through the mountains, mocking the spawn of the Titans...

That was just one event. Then you have stuff like molten cubes slowly advancing upon our encampment, with molten tendrils that extend out and grab people and retract them inside to be cooked alive. A half eaten orc sticks out of the fire elemental, begging his comrades to stay away as he melts. Blackened bones fall out of the back of the fire elemental. Events where Primalists are performing dark rituals, and their bodies contort and erupt into fire elementals. Dragons are actually formidable. We are briefed in camp how to fight them without being eaten, crushed, or roasted alive by them. We take the Primalist's heads back to camp and stake them out for all to see, trophies of our hard fought victories and a warning to any would dare turn against us.

Although it was an amusing design direction/twist that they based the sequel's direction based on player failure rates from the first game, I disliked the plot because it basically invalidated the later plot of #1 (Annette, the Temple Ship, et cetera) and the feeling of achievement good players felt on beating the game on higher difficulty levels.

Just because most people suck at the game shouldn't mean the rest of us should be punished. sigh

So I’ve been playing dragon quest 11. This game is awesome if you love turn based rpgs I highly recommend it.

Trepang2 is fucking incredible.

I played one of the combat simulation levels in it and necksnapped everyone without firing a single shot. It is just so satisfying.

I recently had the displeasure of playing Anodyne 2: Return to Dust. I'll probably need to write up a full review of this beastie to explain in detail, though.

Boltgun kinda got sidelined by Darktide.
Maxed my veteran a while back.

Now if only there was something as good as the recon rifle, but more powerful.

H/T to @Buba for recommending it, a nice way to sink 40+ hours while listening to YouTube.
Will try the Psyker then the Ogryn.

Been on a 40k binge lately as well. Got back into the 40k/Rosigma mod for OpenXCom Extended. Even playing as the Space Marines, it's not really a power fantasy. It's a demonstration of just how brutal warfare is in the 40k universe.
