Because that actually strikes me as an unfair insult to Abrams. Which implies all sorts of horrors about the unmigitated shit-show
disaster that is "The Rings of Power".
Sure, Abrams is wholly devoid of ideas, and only capable of childishly simplified reboots and remixes. Everything he has ever made has been a crude mash-up of earlier ideas or just a blatant reboot of an existing idea... and it's always stripped of all complexity and dumbed down so it can appeal to the lowest possible denominator.
And it's made with billions of dollars, so at least it looks flashy.
Lens flare! Lens flare! Garish, gaudy shit with no weight behind it. The visual equivalent of over-produced pop music.
I despise the man's work, to be sure; but to my knowledge, he has never sat down to deliberately and viciously
rape another person's legacy. He's just a hack of limited talent, who produces the best he can -- the result of which effort just isn't impressive to people of any substance. But he's not out to destroy, defile and utterly violate the stuff he gets his grubby little hands on.
It's greed and incompetence with him, but not active malice.
What they did
here goes far beyond incompetence, and far beyond greed. Those things were involved, yes, but beyond that-- there was an evil intent at play here. They wanted to twist and mangle Tolkien's creation. Not out of foolishness, but out of active spite. It's not just that they cannot create anything good. It's that they delight in
perverting good things. It's what gives them joy.
The irony that they are proving Tolkien's point in doing so goes right over their knavish little heads, but cannot escape the notice of intelligent observers.
