What If? What if the Predator Race is put on trial

In this scenario Q having been observing the Yautja for thousands of years has decided to put the entire race on trial. The charges are that the Predators are a savage and violent race. To have a proper trial Q is gonna provide a prosecution and a defense.

The Prosecution: Captain Sisko and Captain James T Kirk
The Defense: Captain Picard and Captain Janeway.

The Judge: Captain Sheridan (B5)

Jury: A squad of UNSC Spartan 3s

Trial location GIJOE Headquarters Hasbro Earth.

If the Yautja are found innocent they will be set free to carry on as normal. If they are found guilty they have 3 possible sentences

1: Extinction. Q will erase their entire race from existence
2: Imprisonment. All the Yautja will be sent to dimensional prison for a period of 80 million years
3: Devolution. The entire race will be transformed back into a very primitive animal ancestor they had millions of years ago and will live out their lives in that form. All sentience stripped from them.

So how do you think the trial will play out. What arguments do you think both sides will make during the trial. And what verdict do you think will be rendered.

Special Note: Both sides have the complete history of everything the Yautja have done during their entire history. Wars, Hunts everything.

I think the Yautja will get convicted. And more than likely sent to prison for Millions of years. They have too much dirt on them to be not considered savage and violent.

Umm...that just means Klingons, Cardassians, Humans, and pretty much every race gets sent to that prison as well. What Predators do is probably better when compared to what the rest of those races have done in universe.
Humans already passed Qs trial. Predators don't have seem to get the you don't hunt Sentient technologically advanced races for sport. That is what will get them convicted. Preds do it for sport.

As far as I know, they just do that. They aren't xenocidal, they aren't war criminals, they don't go around seizing space so they can breathe properly, they don't turn people into living fork lifts, or living (and still conscious) sculptures (strangely at least two Elven races do that), set children alight and then set wild animals on them for giggles, don't attempt certain ultimate solutions to certain "problems", don't grind up their citizens into rations, don't torture people for shits and giggles, aren't a bunch of world munching bugs, aren't cybernetic terrors...

They are small potatoes in comparison to other races in fiction and Star Trek. I mean you literally have the cast off evil made of a race made manifest running around, a race of more or less demons that feed off the suffering of the dead, and so on. Small Potatoes, and I'd say their prosecution is unfair and malicious. Picard can wedge the shit out of this, and probably get a hung jury instead.

In their defense. They are honorable and don't want to kill the defenseless/weak (what they'd define as it, but still an understandable definition), willing to play fair, willing to reward prey who won by giving them a valuable trophy, respect their prey, further they are willing to take out the bad actor in their species, and as I understand as per AvP they are willing to protect the galaxy from greater threats.

And as I said, small potatoes. Their crimes pale in comparison to other races, and I think their good qualities is going to dilute everything enough for the jury to become hung. I am pretty sure Picard can just get the whole thing tossed out, due to the jury not being made up of the Yajuta's peers nor being selected fairly. And, of course Sherridan would be willing to listen, because he is done with the bullshit of "higher" species.

Just one thing. Like most trials their will be testimony from individuals who were victims of Yautja hunts. Aka people who barely made it out alive. And a few the Predators have killed in gruesome ways. They will testify to not volunteering for said hunts And one of them a Former Police officer will testify to being straight up murdered by one. While he was investigating some strange murders. There will be several months of this type of testimony. It will be very hard for Picard to justify most of it. Given the quote unquote prey did not consent to any of it. Many were just blind sided by an attacker they didn't even see.

Kirk and Sisko will bring up various murder cases committed by various criminals that did similar things and how they got convicted and either sentenced to life in prison or executed. It will not be a slam dunk for a the preds getting off. Actual evidence and victim testimony will be heavy in this trial.

So a Kangaroo court, got it. Picard can just point out to Sherridan how utterly loaded it is.

When saying this, I mean the trial is an obvious farce. Given how they are going to have an endless parade of testimony to bias the jury. At this point, it is obvious that the trial is being rigged.

And there is even the argument that can be made that the court has no jurisdiction or even standing. All Picard needs to point out is that the trial is an utterly farce by its very nature, and that no matter what the Yajuta have done- this is merely Q meddling with a lesser species for his own amusement.

It'd actually be more interesting if Q was the Judge or Jury. The fact it's a Kangaroo Court is totally in line with a Q styled Inquisition anyways and considering the premise, be more interesting then a strict legal drama anyhow with the lack of any objective standard or rules. :p

Kirk would rightly point out that this trial is no different than real trials that have happened on other worlds. Where long list of victims do indeed testify. And that these trials are months long at times. Kirk would also point out that the Yautja have in many cases acted as Judge jury and executioner to many of the individuals they hunted. Often killing the individuals who didn't even know they were there. Sheridan knowing Earth history would not grant Picard's motion for dismissal. Because he knows that if they don't have the trial. Q might very well just decide for himself. Which is gonna be very bad for the Yautja. As in either they have the trial or Q becomes judge jury and executioner. With the latter being the most likely outcome.

I think in a round about way Q is trying to get the Yautja to become a better species. It is the classic scared straight method to change certain behavior. He did the same with Humanity to get them to take threats like the Borg seriously. Having them being judged by past actions. With a possibility of being yeeted out of existence if not for the mercy of species they have hunted will be a scared straight moment.

These kinds of 'trials' are bullshit from the start, what it is doing is declaring an entire race as fit or unfit due to the actions of a very few of their people. In other science fiction regarding the exact same thing we call these kinds of actions cowardly or reprehensible (And more than one fic has pointed that out) so the entire thing is illegal under virtually every legal system for every person involved in this pantomime.

Agreed, the whole Humanity on Trial gibberish was a definite sign that Roddenberry was going senile even before Encounter at Farpoint was filmed.

I mean every counterpoint presented in disagreement with the OP's premise is valid and maybe the impetus for this thread is SailorX having an unreasonable hateboner for the Yautja, but still as presented, the thread is presenting the challenge in the Kangaroo Court of a feckless Q. It feels like the thread still has merit as a "What If" in figuring out how to exonerate or otherwise foil the slanted trial/verdict or see how those involved would let it turn out.

Yep. And I was extending what happened at Encounter at Farpoint to another species. This time not Humans but Yautja. I am gonna do future threads with Klingons, Sith, Minbari, Zentraedi and other races. This will be series that will run well into next year. Exploring how the Q Trial plays out with different defendants.

Edit: And for those who think I hate Yautja. I hate them some much I have a few Predator Toys and figurines...........

So you said the jury is made of Spartan 3s from Halo. Wouldn’t they vote to convict any alien that attacked humanity because of their issues where they were orphaned by genocidal aliens.
As for a future trial for the Sith, I mean I know there used to be a species that were called sith but they are extinct and now Sith are a philosophy or religion, any race can be human twilek wookie. It’s funny the Mandalorians are the same.

Oh I know about the Ancient Sith Species. It was gonna be members of the Sith religion. As to the races that will appear in Future trials.....
Klingons
Zentraedi
Romulans
Minbari
Humans from the Imperium of Man
The Coalition from Rifts
The Engineers from Aliens Franchise
Goa'uld System Lords
Decepticons (G1 Transformers)
Mandelorians
The Invid

Those are the ones I will make over the next year. I will try to make a trial every month or two.

Yeah, that's the rub and what really makes this a kangaroo court. If it was a jury of Vulcans, or Clonetroopers, or any number of others there's room for doubt but this jury is biased as all heck.

"The Prosecution: Captain Sisko and Captain James T Kirk
The Defense: Captain Picard and Captain Janeway."

Why are these all non-lawyer federation officers, they canonically are not allowed to get involved in this (Against the Prime Directive)

"The Judge: Captain Sheridan (B5)"

This is actually a far choice, Sheridan is a diplomat and a soldier and experienced with all kinds of things, what he is not is a law-expert which would really have his choice a little 'iffy'.

"Jury: A squad of UNSC Spartan 3s"

A group of less than sound minded, juiced up supersoldiers with an anti-alien mentality that makes the Astartes look wishy washy minded. This case is already decided before anyone can say a word. The fact they are not of sound mind would preclude them from anything like this.

"Trial location GIJOE Headquarters Hasbro Earth."

Which one?

"If the Yautja are found innocent they will be set free to carry on as normal. If they are found guilty they have 3 possible sentences "

At this point they have no chance, they are accused defended by people with no idea how the law works, how the courts should act (Measure of a Man was bullshit on so many levels) nor the damage that their failure could do), are facing a hostile court that should never have been allowed to make a choice like this and Judge that has no idea what he's doing.

This entire things would be seen as a set up by any decent defence team and they would rule for dismissal (something Sheridan may well accept).

You selected a Jury that will absolutely vote for xenocide regardless of the arguments advanced by either side.

The truly hilarious bit is that you could end up with the Prosecution, Defense, and Judge all trying to argue for innocence (Sisko and Kirk aren't pro-genocide without a lot stronger reason than what the Yautja are guilty of, and neither is Sheridan) while the Jury just sits there and consistently votes "Guilty - Extermination" simply because the Yautja aren't human.

Ehh the Spartans aren't 40k levels of xenocide. After all except for Kilo 5 they don't go out of their way to fuck with former covenant and obey the governments peace treaty with the Elites.

Like any major Court the Yautja will get 3 Appeals before their sentence is carried out. Both the Prosecution and Defense will argue both sides before the Q Continuum. So they get the same chances to get it overturned as defendants in the US do.
