Culture Pedophilia a Legitimate Thought Crime?

Because it should always be in our society's and government's interests to err on the side of caution when protecting children. They are, by definition, incapable of providing informed consent. As previously mentioned, the pedophilia issue is complex, but has shown that enabling the fantasy normalizes that behavior for the pedophile. If you allow this, then you are not necessarily advocating for legal pedophilia, but YOU ARE enabling pedophilia.
"But think of the chillins/national security!"

Said no authoritarian megalomaniac or deranged puritan, like, ever.

I think the distinction here resides in the fact that in RL you can't go out and genocide a whole lot of civilizations like you can in a 4X game without an enormous number of people also saying "yup, let's do this".

He should have gone with Bridget from Guilty Gear or Mizuho from Otoboku.
Ahem,Astolfo and Felix are still a thing.

I enjoy making woodchipper jokes as much as most people who hate pedophiles do, but even I agree that non-offending pedophiles shouldn't be prosecuted for their mental illness.

Possession? The only way to really know whether they have access is surveillance, and I don't think any amount of privacy breaches by the government is worth busting a few kiddy diddlers.

Also, I've had severe revenge fantasies of reading through a registry and hunting down whoever's on it, but you won't see me act on it, and if you knew me you probably know I wouldn't. Shouldn't it be fair to give those who consider their terrible sexual attraction a curse the same shake?

What's considered incestuous varies from place-to-place and time-to-time. In Ancient China having the same surname - even if the two were completely unrelated - was considered incestuous. In most of the world today a 1st cousin is not off-limits.
Many people would justify banning incest based on higher rates of genetic disorders from potential children. Though usually such kids turn out alright. Charles Darwin married his first cousin and they had a bunch of kids who turned out alright.

Then again, those same people would probably say that it was terrible to ban unrelated people from having children because those people have a higher probability (or even certainty) of genetic disorders. Parents with low IQs are likely to have low IQ children, yet most consider it evil eugenics to suggest that they should be discouraged from having kids.

People oppose incest because they think it’s icky, not necessarily because they can articulate any harm that it does.

One could argue from the conservative standpoint that incest breaches morality, degrades familial values, and is forbidden as a sin in the eyes of god, but I guess you can categorize all that as also considering it icky.

Do know I'm playing contrarian, I don't actually believe most of the above are grounds for it being banned or anything.

I'm not recommending scads of spending.
Oh, and how much extra spending and self-serving, self-propagating mission-creeping bureaucracy do you want?

How interesting, I love sending massive amounts of hentai traps to chickenhawk slacktivist SJW classic people who think drawings are real people.
"But think of the chillins!" leads to stuff like me having a flight instructors licence before I was old enough to vote.
Huh, what the hell?
Seriously!

So, why not criminalize pedophilia fantasies that involve consenting adults for the sake of protecting children as well? A pedophile who has consensual sex with adults who look like children could likewise end up wanting to have sex with actual children later on, based on your own logic.

TBH, I think that the Muslim world could benefit from cousin marriage bans.

It still wouldn’t be rape though, any more than killing a character who fights back in a video game is murder.

Interesting analogy.

@bintananth what country you come from where 1st cousin is NOT off limits ?

Maybe I should not talk since my mother's country girl develop early and there are considerable age gaps (not as much I have seen here in Italy) between partners, and if you go in the Amazonian states it's "normal" for a guy of 20 to marry someone of 15.

Or that is Italy there is a say "Nothing more divine than fucking your (female) cousin".

But it's off limits in most, it's like a big signal of "wtf is wrong with you".

Regardless if it is legal.

I'm from the US. 1st cousin marriages are legal without restrictions in 19 US states. As for other places? Everything blue in this image:

As I said, regardless of legality, people more or less react with wtf is wrong with you... At the least.
That's more a matter of where you're from. In some parts of the world about half of all married couples are 1st or 2nd cousins.

EDIT: Thought exercise: How many of your 2nd cousins do you actually know? I don't have any.

Its not "higher rates" in the sense of many medical advice in that style "have 0.005% of a disorder instead of 0.003%", its a proper, meaningful risk.

Point case, Pakistan.
Over 1% of population has just this one, pretty nasty genetic disorder.

The parts of Italy that like banging their cousins also have a much more serious mafia problem:

And they also have lower voter turnout and greater judicial inefficiency:

Thalassemia, like Sickle Cell Anemia, is a recessive trait. I can not speak for the benefits of carrying, but not having go with the former. With the latter having the gene for it protects you from malaria.

There's a PSA radio ad in my neck of the woods advising couples to check for the Sickle Cell trait with the punchline "Wait, wasn't he a white guy?"

EDIT: We are getting way off-topic here. Thankfully TS doesn't slap topic drift but instead splits things off.
