So apparently the US military is asking the public for new names for bases named after Confederate soldiers. I can't see this ending well.

Please... This is important and should not be abused. As the website says...

The names of our military installations should appropriately reflect the courage, values, sacrifices and diversity of our military men and women, with consideration given to the local or regional significance of names and their potential to inspire and motivate our service members

Feel free to share your ideas or submissions here. Let's be the change!

The base names should be changed to that of Southern Unionists and/or escaped slaves that fought back by joining the Union.

Let the South have pride in names worth celebrating, at those bases.

Said elsewhere, Southern Unionists and/or escaped slaves are the best choices for renaming.

That way the South can celebrate parts of its history worth honoring.

Lloyd Austin is from the South. Name a Base after him.

And why name a military base after an escaped slave? It makes no sense whatsoever. If we want to honor escaping then Eddie Slovik is a far more relevant martyr.

Please note that the number of submissions received for any particular name will not influence final recommendations made by the commission. Suggested names will be considered by the commissioners based solely on their merit. Final recommendations will be made to Congress by Oct. 1, 2022.

Came very close to names like 'Fort Forty McFortFace' having to be presented to Congress.
Or worse...

Obviously Fort Lee, named after Robert E. Lee, should be renamed to Fort Lee, named after Henry Lee III.

No, meant actual ACW era people that fought against the CSA for the names, to truly spite the Daughters of the Confederacy and other similar groups that are part of the reason those bases got those names in the first place.

So maybe something like turning Ft. Bragg into Ft. Jones, to honor the Free State of Jones, or even Ft. Tubman, which should be obvious who it's honoring.

The fact there aren't leaderboards or any voting on final names shows that this Naming Commisssion is as farcical as THE 2020 ELECTIONS.

Fort Fredendall: It rhymes with Freedom...hall.

I saw Free State of Jones. That honored nothing except crappy filmmaking. Plus Newton Knight voluntarily served with the Confederacy so he's automatically disqualified. Sorry.

And theres no reason to name a military base after Harriet Tubman. Maybe a border Patrol station or Department of Labor office building.

Ah I love the smell of missile spam in the morning
Also I'll note that the USN has ardently refused to rename the USS Chancellorsville since the last time they renamed a ship after it was commissioned the former USS Midway now USS St. Lo was sunk within two and a half weeks as the first victim of the Kamikazes

Or Union soldiers who weren't born in the US but fought for the Union, like my great-great-great grandfather, as a nice giant middle finger to those celebrate the Confederates.

Yes, which is why I did not say it should be named after Knight, and instead after the entire Free State itself.

Tubman lead Union raids to get slaves to freedom, even during the war, so she qualifies.

The guerrillas were literally all Confederate soldiers. And they were never a Free and Independent State or had that as a goal. Have you actually read the book?

No she didn't. The raid was led by Colonel James Montgomery. The same one of Glory fame who was famous for burning and looting towns that offered no resistance, had already surrendered or even didn't endorse secession. While freeing slaves they also bundled all that loot and took it back home to enrich themselves. He's also responsible for preventing Black troops from seeing combat duty.

Tubman was basically a civilian mascot during the Raid. Montgomery had dozens of local guides capable of leading the raid.

The main point isnt quibbling over history but don't treat this nonsense with any sort or seriousness or gravitas. It's pathetic big government virtue signalling, cringe as fuck and since its going to happen over the popular will of the people, should be mocked and derided into oblivion.

Every effort to treat this with anything beyond mockery is doing the Nation a disservice comparable to that of the Confederacy secession itself.

No, not after Tubman. She was not a general or any sort of military member. No she does not qualify. name a base after someone form that fucking state, doesn't have to be fucking civil war.
If we name a base after Tubman I will leave the fucking Army.
