Election 2020 Election 2020: It's (almost) over! (maybe...possibly...ahh who are we kidding, it's 2020!)

Well, there is one reason to fight and attempt to check questionable votes in situations such as these. Because quite simply, if the election ends in a large section of the country seeing it as having been stolen outright by blatant fraud with no attempt made to stop or prevent it, what do you think said section will start doing in follow up elections? You'll see more people on both sides starting to cheat in an attempt to match one another which causes even more cheating in response. At which point, well, do your elections still mean anything if everyone involved is cheating and is known to be doing so?
More than that, if the election is regarded as a sham by half the country, you don't have a country period you have a civil war.

I wouldn't say you necessarily get civil war, a country can endure a surprising amount of sham elections if it remains stable enough economically. Now, if the economy goes to shit on the other hand then things get interesting.

Those only hold true in countries where the people have no expectation of their vote counting, that isn't the case in the US. Also regarding the economy, have you looked outside.

Was talking to my parents who are old style republicans who don't like trump because he can be a dick, which is "unpresidential". I was having a hard time convincing them that some fishy shit was going on and that I should just be "graceful in defeat"(sound familiar?😒). Anyway I finally started to get through to them when I pointed out that Biden was pulling in more votes than Obama in 2008 in some areas.

They're hurting.

As I said this is literally the worst case. With the election being as it is, the presidential race is gonna be considered a joke regardless of what happens. Congress is split, and can't do anything even if it wanted to. The bureaucracy has destroyed any feeling of good will people had in it, so no one will obey them either. The military which is the only part the populace has any trust in does not want to intervene, and the economy is dangling on a cliff.

Nobody got what they wanted. They both won something but it was not the total victory they wanted.

I am glad you have this mentality Bacle
I've lived in a very blue area, that sometimes seems purple, and in a hard-D family my whole life.

I know the Dems, I know how they operate, I know their rhetoric, I know their motivations, and I know how blind (willfully or not) many of them are to so many things.

I am an ex-Dem who donated a lot to Trump, I know what awaits me if Trump loses, and a red Senate/redder House and conservative SCOTUS won't be enough to stop it with the Covid lockdowns/mandates already overriding many Constitutional rights/barriers to tyranny.
I have been using the Battle of the bulge for a lot of my references. Mainly the 101st and Bastogne but the 82nd did just an impressive job protecting the flank.

Lets be the 82nd, the 101st during the bulge, lets be 2ID during korea. Lets not give up and roll over. Let us fight until we die or give them the fight they are were not expecting! We will make sure our voice and our energy goes to protecting the Republic we live in.
Those are good analogies, but I'd also point to the 1st Marines on Guadalcanal or the Taffies at Samar.

I'm aware the lockdowns and Corona have a put a dent in the economy. The thing is, for it to get to the point where civil war becomes an actual thing you need a lot more then just a dent in the economy. For perspective, prior to Syria going up in flames it's economy had one of it's central pillars in agriculture get nuked by long running droughts to the point it went from making up 27% of the economy and a quarter of the workforce to 17% of the economy a few years later and pushed a lot of unemployed families into the cities while the costs of basic necessities like food went up because it went from exporting wheat to importing it. The US isn't near that point yet as far as I can tell.

Now if for some reason after winning Biden mandates a nationwide multi month lockdown or something equally stupid and blows up the economy as a result then you can start worrying.

Uh at this point 40% of small businesses which actually employ the majority of people in the country are not coming back. Also they are already talking a second lock down, and Biden promised a 3 month national lock down. And Europe has just entered another.

The former can be papered over long enough to keep going with sufficient spending in the form of handouts and the like (at least so long as you can get congress to actually agree to pass a stimulus bill...). Far from ideal but survivable if handled properly. The latter on the other hand is where you can start being concerned. With that said, politicians and breaking promises go hand in hand. Particularly politicians who lack the support of both the judicial and legislative branches of their own government.

As someone in finance, no, no it can't the stimulus bill or loan for businesses was no where near sufficient, especially since said loan was to go to paying employees. Meaning there was nothing left for overhead. Not helped when you had people damaging the property for several months.

So what do you think is likely to happen? Think we can make it through this or do you think most of us won't live to see the end of the decade?

The Republicans do appear to finally respond. Graham is going to help fund the legal defense.

He went from flapping in the direction the wind is blowing, Lindsey Graham...to Punished Lindsey. I'm so proud. Trump must have given him a Spine for Christmas or something. Maybe some balls.

@7 Gold Eye Heals the Wise. Do you still have that meme of Punished Lindsey? I must have it.

Oh people will live, the end assuredly isn't nigh. Remember people survive North Korea as well. The thing is the comfort people have grown accustomed to in the post war era is hanging by a thread.
