Election 2020 Bidening the Trump? Trumping the Biden? The presidential debate thread.

This is a stupid question but oil is a valuable resource to retain yes? The owner of it gets income from it because everyone needs it so why do people support destroying the oil industry if the other nations haven't done the same?

Extreme self-depreciation and stuff about how China’s just starting to develop and thus can’t be held to the same standards as developed nations like those of the first world

I’ve heard before arguments that richer and more advanced nations consume more resources and energy than comparatively poorer ones

Trump made a major slip up with the 'good' remark concerning the immigrant kids he will have wished he never stated that mark my words...
So, do you think that will cost him the election?

It may not make him friends with more progressives, but for people who illegal immigration is a big ticket issue (which is a lot of his base) discouraging illegal immigration via the deterrence the separation the policy enacted is good policy. He mentioned how kids were often used by coyotes to try to bring people in, and I remember seeing reports about the same kid being used by multiple traffickers/smugglers multiple times.

I'm suspecting there's a con to be had somewhere. It could be a legacy of the cold war. Convince useful idiots to go lobby for environmental protection that deprives their competitor's to not rely on local resources while they themselves can do it or through an ally.

It’s a combination of things, it’s how I’ve seen globalism romanticized in my college, say that by going to places where the pay is cheaper they’re actually helping in developing nations like mine which are where said cheap labor is from

I mean those kids in the detention centers most of them most liekl would have ended up in a lot worse situations as they did not come over with parents

That goes against the romanticized depiction of them all just bringing their kids in for them all to have a better life....there’s no way they could be coming over and selling their kids to human trafficking organizations along the way

That is the argument the left makes

My thoughts on the debate.

Was it just me or did anyone else think Joe had gone senile when he referred to Trump as Abraham Lincoln? If it was meant as a burn it was a questionable one.

The moderator kept interrupting Trump and almost never Biden. Wish we had Joe Rogan and them sit in a room for 3 hours.

Biden moved away from the hard hitting questions, but he did it way too much. What about them cages?

Don't forget the "Poor boys" comment he made.

Facts and Logic don’t matter

What matters is sheer raw emotion and their “logic” through which they can look like a bunch of cultured, urbane, “scientific” and cosmopolitan douchebags with posh british accents talking down to everyone else who’s going against them as inbred white trash hillbillies

But here, guys like Biden can’t exactly talk down people like Trump who whilst also rich and powerful is far too crude and audacious to end up backing down to those pricks

That was a bit cringe, but the Abe Lincoln thing he did had me do a literal spit take. I thought Biden had gone full senile. He brought it back when Trump hit him on it. Poor boys is definitely going to become a meme. Also I keep thinking of the superhero TV show The Boys now.

Also the Hitler reference. /sigh. The US did not have a good relationship with Hitler. There is a reason we shipped weapons to England and not Germany. I guess we did 'talk' as countries. I never understood why talking with dictators is a bad thing. I mean talking is better than war, and Kim is not going anywhere. It would be one thing if he was a rebel insurgent, but his family has been ruling for 3 generations and decades. You don't get much more entrenched/legitimate than that.

I will say it was nice that Trump called out Biden's family table moments as pure bullshit. I think that was an area Trump scored a lot of points in when he hit Biden on that.

I like that Trump baited Biden into making statements that will alienate a whole bunch people.

I don't think Biden is wrong, however -- the sooner we transition from a fossil fuel economy to a nuclear-electric economy, the better.
We will still need oil and nat-gas for other things besides energy.

Lots of pharma and industrial feed-stocks depend on petro-derived materials.

I'm a huge fan of nuclear energy, but I know it cannot replace some to the less talked about petroleum uses.

Three take aways from the debate.

1. Trump did better than the first.
2. Biden didn't give him the win he needed.
3. The immigrant kids sound byte is gonna linger and really not help him with suburban women. An area he needed to make up ground in.

Transition from oil is going to hurt joe too, but the fracking support is going to limit that. The question was about pollution and Trump talked about how much money they are making. I am betting no one here lives close to an oil refinery. I wouldn't want to or a coal power plant.

I can't wait for my military delivered covid vaccine in the next couple weeks. I am sure that will happen.

Well yeah, I'm not talking about completely banning oil and natural gas forever, just transitioning firmly away from them as staples.

That entirely depends on if the suburban woman in question is also a supporter of illegal immigration, or not.

Because people against illegal immigration tend to see the child separation situation as an unfortunately necessary deterrence to people using kids to get free tickets in, even when said kids aren't theirs.

In Sanctuary Cities it won't help him, but those areas weren't likely to go for him anyway. In areas where illegal immigration is not looked upon kindly, and there are non-blue suburbs, the women are more likely to see the unfortunate logic behind it.
