The Committee plans on holding the hearing (the date is far from set yet) in regards to Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act which is the law that protects tech companies from lawsuits over users’ posted content and allows the companies a large amount of leeway in moderating that content.
Tellingly, the Committee's Democratic head previously opposed the subpoena requests but eventually allowed the Committee Republicans to move forward with it since the subpoena will also cover data usage and privacy issues as well. Many Democratic lawmakers however expressed concerns over the timing of this hearing, stating it should take place after the election. Many Republican lawmakers of course are critical of Big Tech's censorship of Conservative and Right Wing content on their publishing platforms.
