Woke Librarians and Children's Books

Just Like That Bluebird
The part books play in the education of a child can't be overstated. They can literally set the tone of a child's entire life, their worldview, how they process and learn as an adult. And of course, it seems Woke Culture has cottoned on to this.

A lengthy article, but it's worth reading, even though I myself walked away more annoyed than I was before reading it.

So what can be done about this? I beleive the answer to be an active parent (for those of us who are parents), to take the time to explain the things unsaid to your kids and to be judicial in what your child intakes, but that feels... Insufficient? Too daunting? I mean, it's only going to grow from here.

If it's targeted at adults, sure, but I'm talking stuff specifically meant to indoctrinate children.

Most kids read Young Adult novels I think, and I think the YA Writing Community was overtaken by SJW types

I honestly wonder how kids would be if they grew up reading stuff like the works of Robert E. Howard and H.P. Lovecraft, to hell with any age ratings

Dr Seuss.

Haven’t read Dr Seuss in a LONG time, that said, for me kids reading REH or Lovecraft or other Pulp authors or even books by GRRM or Jim Butcher, sounds like they may not end up dealing with the sort of pretentious chuuni undertones I get from Young Adult series
The heck is a 'chuuni' and why is it pretentious?

This book, which I've read and is just communist propaganda for kids is at my cities museum for kids reading in a display.

A kid would find Lovecraft mind-numbing. Then again, Most Lovecraft is in fact mind numbing.

Not mind numbing or even depressing or horrifying for me, more “NARM-y” than anything else

That said, my main complaint would be how for Pulp Stories, I keep feeling every main character or perspective is the exact same generic character....probably because it’s cheaper and easier than making characters with differing personality traits

It's the quintessential lovecraft overwrought writing style that throws kids off, not the subject matter. Lots of kids love Poe stories, for contrast, that are basically just about a sad guy doing nothing.

Yes, but kids actually tend not to mind that kind of thing.

That’s understandable

Wonder how they would feel whilst reading Conan

Also, I’m referring also to “young adults”
