Apparently Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega hasn't been seen (publicly) at least since a short address back on March 12th. For some reason, this isn't apparently unusual behavior because as the article indicates he's inexplicably disappeared for prolonged periods of time before including in 1998 and earlier in his presidency in 2014.

Nicaraguan president missing in action for nearly one month and counting

Most are speculating this disappearance is due to health reasons though perhaps not anything #Wuflu related. Officially Nicaragua has only seven confirmed cases of Covid-19 despite taking almost no measures whatsoever in preventing the disease. It is suspected the number of cases is far more widespread and could get much worse if no precautions are taken in the future.

Still, his disappearance is interesting in the wake of this pandemic and the still ongoing protests from 2018 critical of his rule. For those that don't know, Daniel Ortega, along with Venezuelas Hugo Chavez/Nicholas Maduro and Bolivia's Evo Morales among others is a strongly socialist (and ex-Sandinista guerrila) who rose to power in Nicaragua back in 2007 (after an earlier stint of leadership from 1979 to 1990).

Ortega is just odd all around. Because of past practice, I wouldn't think too much of it.

Oh yeah, one of the fringe channels I occasionally follow brought this up weeks ago like it was the harbinger of something big (everything is for those types). I hope he has a successor picked out.
