What is a safe and trustworthy CD burning program and a good video recording program?

I'm going to try and do some archving in case things go to heck and I need to go into hiding Mainly public domain movies and audiobooks that I buy? Does anyone know of a good CD burning program?

Archival hardware can get pretty expensive. Magnetic tape is the industry standard for backups, and a low end drive will cost $200 and $10 per tape cassette.

a DVD-wr drive looks to be 20-40 dollars, DVD-R is 50 for $12, 4.7 GB each.

If you want something more suitable for archival, I'd suggest gettign an M-Disk compatible drive.

For video recording, if you're talking about recording what's on a computer screen, there's a couple options, but something this simple, I'd suggest getting something like FRAPS.
