Scenario: on Sep 11th 1987 business in New York and the world at large occurs as usual until at 2:30 PM EST. Radio transmissions from space are interspersed by the US and the USSR. the space cadets of their respected countries are panicked as they warn about rays of light seemingly heading toward the US and USSR one gold in color the other silver with energy readings off the charts. Less then a minute latter two loud booms can be heard. Reports from both countries report something has landed on the Statue of Liberty and the St Basil’s Cathedral. Both Coutries Mobilize their air forces. What the pilots report no one can believe (You can even hear the bewilderment and disbelief in the pilot's voice as they report back what they are seeing.
On the statue of Liberty there is a gold and white chariot Piloted by what looks like a human figure, the figure has a bright sunlike aura that makes it hard to make out the features, but from what they can tell, she looks to be some kind of mix between a fairy tale looking queen or princess and an angel with rainbow colored hair. She's surrounded by guards in Blue and gold armor that seems Roman centenarian like in design. There also appears to be 6 figures with her as well and one of them clearly has wings. Meanwhile in mascow their are reports of a similar chariot that is dark blue in color with a woman with Dark blue hair ivory like skin and an aura that's just hard to describe. She also seems to have three small children with her. One of them has wings that seemed to be malformed.
Once the two princesses are sure they have everyone attention, they speak in a voice that is so amplified everyone in their respected countries can hear without any need for a radio transmission.
The princess in the US introduces herself as Princess Celestia, while the one in Moscow introduces herself as Princess Luna. they claim to be peaceful race from a planet that is similar to us on the other side of the sun. they have been observing our world for a while now due to the fact that It was Celestia's job to look over the sun and stars sky and Luna's Job to look over the dream world. After Luna had observed countless repeated nightmares involving nuclear annihilation, they figured it would be best to make first contract and prevent such a future from happening.
To show they mean no harm they offer tributes to the US and USSR of artwork and precious minerals worth billions of dollars. (That's chump change for them)
How does this first contact with a seemingly godlike race affect the course of the cold war and earth as a whole? How does the world react to this politically, culturally?
Notes:
1. Going with the friendship is magic versions of MLP
2. These are humanoid but every doppelgangers do share aspects with their prime counterparts (characters who were Pegasi have wings, earth pony doppelgangers have super strength, and unicorn doppelgangers have horns on their heads and can use magic
3. skin tone is the same as their prime counterparts
