In something that shows how intergenerational Mario and Nintendo's IP has become, when I watched this trailer with my older daughter (who's eight) just started naming off all the different characters that showed up, then asked when we can see the movie.

I think I'm gonna have to end up seeing this when it comes out, regardless of the quality now.

To be fair the quality seems pretty good aesthetically, the most I have heard criticism wise is Marios voice for being too normal but it's a mixed bag considering its questionable if someone could pull off that voice for a full film and not come across as annoying.

But in any case, I wouldn't worry about it as it's just a straight up adventure film so I doubt much can go wrong beyond whatever message it delivers.

Bah, then they're just a bunch of damn kids who never heard Captain Lou Albano's take on it and I thought he was a fine VA for Mario both now and back then. Chris Pratt seems to be leaning more on that direction and I'm willing to wait to hear more.

Well, here's Mario in other languages for the trailer for comparison's sake:

They better not fucking screw this up by woke nonsense, otherwise they'll be 3 for 3 for shit movie adaptations (yeah, I'm counting that crappy anime movie as adaptation no. 1 and it's existence was only forgivable for it appearing so early on in the brothers' existence).

Nintendo is not played to Wokies from what I've seen of them. I suspect it will have a perfectly fine moral.

Seth Rogan's dumb woke ass being in the cast and the mere existence of the current NoA is what worries me. I don't even want the slightest of chances of their having even the tiniest amount of influence on the direction of the movie.

EDIT: Damnation, the Chris Pratt hate is getting stupid, I am seeing absolute retards outright state Mario was never from New York; Miyamoto outright stated that Mario is a New Yorker in an interview.

Saw the movie, movie critics are, as per usual, idiots. I went to the earliest showing just to avoid the crowd, still a decent amount of people there. By the time I came out, the parking lot was already full and it was only the middle of the day. I also saw kids with Mario hats while shopping for groceries and overheard more kids asking their parents to buy them more Mario-themed snacks and merch.

Anyways, it was everything I wanted in a Mario movie, though I wouldn't have minded 10 more minutes. I understand the 90 min. runtime is good for the kids, but I think they would be OK with a 100 min. runtime. For all the bitching by critics about it being safe or "no story," for these idiots, I recommend watching the disaster that is the 1993 Mario movie. There's your risky and story-heavy Mario that you can choke on, geniuses. For anyone with more than a single brain cell, all we want (and got) is a Mario movie that stays true to the games...which means on the first outing the only story we need at most is Mario and Luigi saving the Mushroom Kingdom from Bowser. We can get the more robust type of stories from the RPGs of the Mario franchise on the following outings.

Performances were good all around, with the exception of the Kongs. I was expecting Seth Rogen to be lazy with the voice work (which he was), but Cranky and the little bit we heard of Diddy were just as crap IMO. I feel Cranky should be more curmudgeonly and Diddy was kind of lazy, in the "generic kid voice" way.

Thanks again to Nintendo putting their foot down and cutting out the planned "make Mario incompetent and Peach the perfect girlboss hurr durr"; there's a few artifacts of that if you knew about that planned nonsense
for example, Peach only makes one mistake in the film and it's not really acknowledged by the characters
, but it's all explained and thankfully what remains didn't turn Peach into a Daisy clone as I feared.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie was really fun. It's the first time I'm actually wanting to see a movie three times (if my work scheduled would have allowed for it). I'm definitely looking forward to the sequel and the future Nintendo Cinematic Universe. Also, hopefully this will herald the end of any sort of meaningful influence of movie critics and the continued humiliation of woke Hollywood and Disney productions.

EDIT: Also, absolutely loved including 80s music in the soundtrack (also added the other things I noticed on how big of an impact this movie had on the kids).

EDIT 2: Oh, one more criticism I had with the movie was that they didn't credit Grant Kirkhope for the DK Rap (it was only mentioned as coming from DK64)

I was about to make my comments on how I found the trailer underwhelming only to see the movie had just come out and the only reason I saw this thread was because it was bumped up with a nice juicy review already! :p

I watched it, in theaters 🤯, it was a solidly decent movie. General theme of teamwork and self-confidence (the fact that this is something worth mentioning...). I only had two issues with it: despite there being several famous voice-actors in it the singular instance that I could easily recognize was Seth Rogan (douche bag) all the better actors were too good to be recognizable, and they sourced Peach's personality from the later games where she is an Action Barbie which puts some strain of Peach-vs-Mario as for who is the hero of the plot.

Mario is supposed to be the hero. Allegedly Nintendo put their foot down when Hollywood wanted Peach to be it.

Not sure how reliable this source is.

My wife and I took our daughter to see this on Thursday afternoon last week.

My daughter had seen the first trailer months ago and explicitly asked to go see it, and had continued asking.

She's eight years old, loves playing games on the Switch, and as such is literally the prime demographic for this movie.

She loved it, was engrossed through the entire thing and kept chatting about it as we left the theatre. My wife and I were also amused through the entire thing, it was solid, nothing objectionable in it thanks to Nintendo being, well, Nintendo, and it was an overall enjoyable afternoon out at the movies with the family. A moment of pure Americana brought to us by a Japanese company (and, well, unironically: thanks Nintendo, it was awesome both for an old school gamer like me and my daughter so you managed to hit it out of the park).

WAS MARIO EMASCULATED?

HOW MUCH OF A MARY SUE IS PRINCESS PEACH?

DID THEY CUCK BOWSER?

IS LUIGI A MARXIST TRADE UNIONIST?

How come Joe the Plumber wasn't given a cameo like Queen Lizzo was in Star Wars?

Who'd have thought that it would be Sonic the Hedgehog and Mario that ended up not merely breaking but smashing the video game movie curse. These are interesting times indeed.

I'm convinced Nintendo are going to green light a lot more of their properties for the silver screen, but I'd worry about them being given to Illumination. The semi-kid friendly humour works for Mario, but for an epic fantasy like Zelda or a sci-fi like Metroid, not so much.

The problem with the so-called video game movie curse is that it's mostly based on stuff made by the likes of Uwe Boll. The problem with other video game movies is the same problem that the "woke" productions have, which is that they do not respect the source material.

Saw the movie today. It was pretty good. I was surprised how short it was and yet it filled in so much stuff and was pretty easy to follow, even if you're a kid or special needs like myself.

I think I liked the Sonic live action style movies more, but yeah, you couldn't make this Mario style movie live action. It was great with its particular animation style. And while it was heavily focused for kids there was plenty of enjoyment and entertainment to be derived from it by teens and adults.
