    Paramount and CBS merged together:
CBS And Viacom Finally Re-Tie The Knot, Merging After 13 Years As Separate Companies
Ending years of fitful discussions that played out against a backdrop of operatic corporate drama and media industry consolidation, CBS and Viacom have finally agreed to merge. The deal reunites them and pools assets such as Paramount Pictures, CBS, Showtime and MTV in a new entity to be called ViacomCBS Inc. after 13 years of the two operating in largely separate media domains.

Under the all-stock deal, Viacom shareholders will get 0.59625 CBS shares for each non-voting share they own, which is an exchange ratio a bit below Viacom’s closing price last Friday. Regulatory approval of the merger is expected in the next several months.

The fair market value of the tie-up as of today is about $30 billion. The combined annual revenue of the new company is $28 billion.

    How this affects Trek:
‘Star Trek’ Poised To Become New Marvel? CBS & Viacom Merger Brings Franchise Under One Fleet
Taking a page from the now Fox-expanded Disney book, new ViacomCBS kingpin Bob Bakish made very clear just now on today’s investor call, Star Trek and the Mission Impossible franchises have significant potential to leverage “across all the companies’ platforms.” Soon to be minted CBS CEO Joe Ianniello hit the drum hard himself when he added with an international angle that “scale is becoming more and more important all the time.”

    ...

It may not be Marvel yet but it certainly has the potential to rival the Disney-own comic giant with a legacy and currency that is almost as valuable – especially as part of Shari Redstone’s overall strategy is a great global footprint.

At this very early stage, we hear that any great Trek will fall under the fiefdom of the David Stapf-run CBS Studios – as we await who truly rules what and whether a fourth Star Trek movie in the latest reboot round is truly coming in an R-rated form from Quentin Tarantino or whoever.

Guess what - new Kelvin Timeline movie:
    Article:
"We are thrilled to say that we are hard at work on a new Star Trek film that will be shooting by the end of the year that will be featuring our original cast and some new characters that I think are going to be really fun and exciting and help take Star Trek into areas that you’ve just never seen before," Abrams said. "We’re thrilled about this film, we have a bunch of other stories that we’re talking about that we think will be really exciting, so can’t wait for you to see what we’re cooking up. But until then, live long and prosper."

We'd already known that WandaVision director Matt Shakman was attached, though there has been some re-shuffling of the writing line-up, with Avatar 2's Josh Friedman and WandaVision's Cameron Squires taking over from Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Reportedly, Paramount executives commissioned focus group reports on fan interest in the Pine crew returning, and discovered that, yes, people still wanted to watch them.

We've been here before, of course, with rumours of a time-travel scenario that would have seen Pine's Kirk meet his dad, George, played so memorably (and briefly) by Chris Hemsworth in Abrams' 2009 movie. Actor pay deals scuppered that on like a gravitic mine, but there's always the chance they could have figured it out.

And this also likely means that other potential films in development, including those from Quentin Tarantino and Fargo's Noah Hawley are likely headed to dry dock permanently, though Abrams' mention of "a bunch of other stories" might mean their ideas could eventually go ahead in some expanded universe.

No release date was given for the new movie, but that late 2022 shooting start points to a potential late 2023 arrival. We might see this film series boldly going forward once more.

Also, an interview with the Star Trek: Resurgence devs:
    Article:
Some of the best Star Trek games are adventure games like Star Trek: 25th Anniversary and Judgement Rites. For more than a decade, Star Trek Online has done an impressive job of bringing the storytelling style of the franchise to episodic online gaming. Did you look towards any of those past Star Trek games for ideas or inspiration in adapting the franchise in Resurgence, or were you more reliant on your own considerable experience?

DM: It's certainly important to know what else is out there. We did a lot of research before beginning development on Star Trek: Resurgence – it's a critical part of the process of making a good licensed game. You need to understand what makes a franchise special, so you don't just end up with something that superficially looks like the IP, but doesn't feel like it. But we also put a lot of stock in our experience making this very specific type of game, and knowing what it takes "under the hood" (or down in engineering, if you will) to craft a compelling interactive story. And ultimately, that experience has a greater impact on this game than something else that came before.

Kent Mudle, cinematic director: We did our research of course, but the kind of game we're making is based on the unique strengths of our team. We've made many story-focused games together, and have a lot of experience adapting different IPs into an interactive medium. We want to make a Star Trek game that only we can make.

Star Trek has told lots of different kinds of stories, from character-focused drama to save-the-galaxy space opera, to comedic bottle episodes, and that continues to evolve in this new streaming era. What storytelling style are you going for in Resurgence?

DM: Our goal from the outset was to deliver on a broad Star Trek experience – from the camaraderie and conflict among the crew to encounters with aliens to exploring mysteries to big action set-pieces with big stakes. The game is set shortly after the TNG era of shows and movies, so stylistically, that's our jumping-off point. But this game is not episodic – we're telling one epic story from start to finish, putting the player at the heart of a grand adventure, where they're the star of one of the feature films.

KM: We're essentially making a playable Star Trek film, one big story that unfolds with the player as the hero(s) of the narrative. Many different scenes and events will occur, but all in service of a larger central plot.

Well, they apparently picked the right guys for this game, since they name drop a lot of good TNG episodes in their "what episodes should you watch to prep for this game?" section, and they also admit that you could do a Trek game without Starfleet or a starship.

The Roddenberry Archive is doing a thing where they're building a virtual Trek museum, with the goal of letting you walk around the various Enterprises and other hero ships.

    Article:

The Roddenberry Archive brings every iteration of Star Trek’s USS Enterprise bridge to life – with William Shatner, Terry Matalas and John de Lancie

The Roddenberry Estate and OTOY unveil beautiful and fully realized recreations of Gene Roddenberry’s iconic Starship Enterprise bridge across time and space – with testimony from Star Trek luminaries including William Shatner.

    LOS ANGELES, CA – April 27th, 2023
The Roddenberry Estate and OTOY are proud to share the next phase of their multi-decade collaboration on the Roddenberry Archive – capturing Roddenberry’s lifetime of works for future generations to explore with quiescent historical accuracy and holographic immersion.

As a coda to the epic conclusion of Star Trek: Picard, the Roddenberry Archive team is presenting its largest set of iconic Star Trek digital archive works to date, organized in a new web portal – bridging the legacies of all three major eras of Roddenberry’s Star Trek – with help from William Shatner (Star Trek), John de Lancie (Star Trek: The Next Generation) and Terry Matalas (Star Trek: Picard).

Today’s release allows fans to see the many dozens of evolutionary iterations of the famous Starship Enterprise bridge, across every epoch of Star Trek’s history. Each bridge is presented in the timeline as a 1:1 scale “in-universe” 360 recreation.

John de Lancie, who has portrayed Gene Roddenberry’s beloved character ‘Q’ since 1987’s Star Trek: The Next Generation premiere, narrates a deep dive exploring the evolution and legacy of the Starship Enterprise bridge – from its inception in Pato Guzman’s 1964 sketches, through its portrayal across decades of TV shows and feature films, to its latest incarnation on the Enterprise-G – as revealed in the final episode of Star Trek: Picard.

The combined documentary and exploratory online experience brings the legacy and history of the iconic starship Enterprise to life through meticulous recreations of the filming sets used for production as well as “in-universe” life size, functional immersive virtual interiors. Audiences exploring the Starship Enterprise bridge can see working turbolifts and consoles – and immerse themselves as if they were living in the Star Trek Universe.

The recreations were produced for the Gene Roddenberry Estate, and overseen by iconic Star Trek artists, including Denise and Michael Okuda, authors of The Star Trek Encyclopedia, Daren Dochterman, Doug Drexler and Dave Blass.

Accompanying the interactive bridge experiences and evolution documentary film, is a series of 2023 featurettes exploring Star Trek’s behind-the-scenes production process with commentary by Star Trek luminaries sharing Gene Roddenberry’s vision for the iconic film and TV franchise.

The first featurette teases William Shatner’s hours-long testimonial for the Roddenberry Archive, captured holographically within a perfect recreation of the 1979 USS Enterprise bridge. The legendary icon shares his memories, aspirations and intentions in bringing Captain Kirk to life in 1965, portraying his death in 1994 – and his personal views on the future he envisions for this beloved character, including visualizations from his 1995 novel “Ashes of Eden”.

The second featurette includes interviews with leading cast and crew, including: James Conway, Director, Star Trek: The Next Generation; David Livingston, Producer / Director, Star Trek: The Next Generation; David Gerrold, Program Consultant, Star Trek: The Next Generation; Andrew Probert, Consulting Senior Illustrator, Star Trek: The Next Generation; Herman Zimmerman, Production Designer, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Terry Matalas, showrunner, Star Trek: Picard; and Dave Blass Production Designer, on Star Trek: Picard.

The release of the immersive Enterprise recreations and documentary testimony is accompanied by a new short in the 765874 Archive concept video series, which has captivated audiences online since its first release in 2022.

The third installment of the 765874 series explores concepts from William Shatner’s “Ashes of Eden” and Star Trek: Picard’s resurrection of the Enterprise-D. Actors Mahé Thaissa and Lawrence Selleck return to explore iconic themes from the history of Star Trek. A life size physical prosthetic Arex was created for the production, bringing the much beloved character from Star Trek: The Animated Series to life, not just in CG, but also in live action.

The archive has completed work on bringing Majel Roddenberry’s voice to life as the Enterprise computer, based on phonetic recordings she made in 2008, with the goal of adding her signature vocalization to the archive’s recreation of the USS Enterprise in the coming months.

A collection of canonical Star Trek environments and set recreations are continuously being prepared by the Roddenberry Archive for future updates covering production from the ‘The Cage’ pilot onwards, as well as a full and complete 1:1 scale recreation of the entire interior of the original USS Enterprise, featured in Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

“The Roddenberry Archive portal gives the public a first glimpse into the many years of incredible work done by the archive’s world class production team both in preserving Gene Roddenberry’s legacy in tandem with visually documenting 60 years of Star Trek history in quiescent detail ” said CEO of OTOY and Roddenberry Archive, Jules Urbach. “Through new technology, we can bring audiences back in time as if they were there on set during the making of Star Trek, providing a window into new dimensions of the Star Trek universe,” added Urbach. The team’s efforts to capture Star Trek history in full lifelike detail with the highest degree of historical accuracy is an important milestone in preserving Gene Roddenberry’s vision for future generations to explore and see, through the lens of those that worked with him.”

“Over multiple decades, we have been exploring the frontiers of new technology to how we might document my father’s vision, work and ideas in ways that can be experienced by generations yet to come” said Rod Roddenberry, President of Roddenberry Entertainment. “The Roddenberry Archive is not just a way to honor my father’s legacy, but my mother’s, Majel, as well. She voiced the Enterprise computer for decades. In 2008, before she left us, she meticulously recorded her voice phonetically, with the intent to preserve it for some future technology to bring it back to life. We waited 15 years, and today I am so proud to have her voice, just as I remember it, welcoming visitors to the Roddenberry Archive portal”

I did a quick peak at the site, and you do not want to check it out on a laptop. Makes the fans go nuts whenever the bridges are on screen.
