If Big Foot is real (not to discount the perspectives of those who are bloody convinced they’ve seen one), I’d hypothesise it’s a descendant of or offshoot of Gigantopithecus. People describe the thing as absolutely massive, and as far as we know there’s only one species of Great Ape that fits the bill.
Speculative evolution theory, they’re human. No, not like that, instead, scenario; tomorrow, amateur big game hunters bring in a sasquatch corpse. The chaos begins when the DNA is tested and isn't a new species, the three meter tall thousand plus pound corpse is genetically human. More than that, it matches a previously-unsolved missing person case from the nineties.

Humans are heavily neotenous, meaning we retain juvenile traits into adulthood compared to other primate species. Another dramatic example of neoteny are axolotol salamanders, who, under artificial conditions can be induced to metamorphose. These are connected, sasquatchs are actually adult humans. Sagittal crest, brow ridge, much greater prognathism of the jaws, much furrier, a smaller braincase and eyes to face ratio, larger and less social, etc.

Just as iodine will trigger metamorphosis in axolotols, there's some unknown substance or phenomena with the same effect on humans and whatever it is, it can be found somewhere in the North American forest wilderness and mythological descriptions of a "curse" that transforms its victims into cannibalistic subhuman forest monsters indicate it's been there a while.

That is actually logical explanation.

Humans don't get 8ft to 9ft tall with shaggy hair and eyes that reflect light like a cat. The one I saw was 8ft tall and looked like it weighed 700lbs.

That is actually logical explanation.
Doesn’t require a stable breeding population of Bigfeet, numerous enough to be seen more frequently or captured. There may only be a couple dozen Bigfeet in existence at a time, never encountering each other or reproducing and the “species” might temporarily go extinct any number of times before additional humans are exposed and metamorphose.

Honestly, I think the more logical explanation is that they're some species of primate that we haven't discovered yet.

Anyway, time for my story, this happened a couple of days ago.

I do a lot of outdoor activities like hunting and ATV riding. This particular day, it was around 8:30 at night, and I had stopped because I wanted a smoke break. After having a couple of smokes and two cans of beverages, I was getting ready to leave when I heard it. Something was walking through the woods, and based on the sounds, I knew that it wasn't a four-legged animal. It sounded exactly like something on two legs walking, and it wasn't putting much effort into being quiet.

I didn't stick around long enough to try and find it. I figured that if you're in the woods and something is making a point to make its presence known, that's a signal to leave.

I don't believe that it was a human, and given that I've already talked to the ones who would have been down there, I'm just going to say that I'm pretty sure that it was something big.

Current humans.,who are neotenous. But what if our adult form is Bigfoot? and, thanks to that...

It explain why there is so few of them.Becouse humans rarely become "adult" those times.

By the way - i once read some english novel about some Lord who decide to take special diet, lived 200 years thanks to that - but also turned into neandertal....forget author and title,as usual.
