I am convinced that the killing and the maiming must stop, the deputy leader of the Taliban writes.

When I read it, it's all flowery languages of peace and kumbaya that they had enough. I can believe they're weary since war has changed to advances in technology to make even an Afghan tribal sick of being shot at but I don't believe there'll be peace there anytime soon.

They don’t need to keep up with tech to keep up their fight

All they have to do is keep fighting and encourage others to keep hiding, preparing and fighting

They can be a threat that worries everybody while having subpar weapons and training all while living in some cave where they live on poor rations

If you can get even one idiot Westerner to fly over and become a member or get some money from local rich guys, you can survive, if only till the next time you need to get another donation

Terrorists don’t fight the actual soldiers because they know they will lose, hell they don’t have much ability to even destroy the army but they can be a hassle

Oh, Haqqani network, it's quite clear what they want, control of Afganistan and free opium trade. And I doubt they are really weary, Pakistan is protecting them so they are dictating the tempo of war on the other side of border, despite occasional dronings. It's just the tripe for the kind of people who read NYT.
